NMMC hurries to implement government resolution

CBD-BELAPUR: With
only two days left for the
expected announcement of elections, Navi
Mumbai Municipal
Corporation hurriedly
adopted a resolution to
provide regular water
connection to every
slum unit that existed
before 2000. The general body unanimously
adopted a resolution to
that effect on Tuesday.
By doing so, NMMC
has only endorsed the
decision of the state government to protect all
pre-2000 slums in the
state. The government
decision also includes a

performances

NMMT buses have
been revealed. Only
three out of the 44 bus
routes are found profitable. The three routes
surprisingly are
from Raigad district part of Navi
Mumbai.
The three
routes are bus
route no. 57
which plies between Manosarovar railway station and Khandeswar
railway station, followed by bus route no.
54 which plies from
Kharghar railway station to Taloja (RAF) and
bus route no. 123 from
Kharghar Ove gaon to
Borivali (East). The last
bus (no. 123) is having
AC bus service.
In terms of profit,
bus route no. 57 records
Rs 21.23 per kilometer
profit, followed by route
no. 54 with Rs 14.84 per
km and route no. 123
with Rs.11.67 per km.
In terms of distance between the stops, bus
route no. 57 is only 4.4
km followed by route
no. 54 with 9.6 km and
route no. 123 with 62.8
km.

Chain snatching at Panvel
` 1.25 lakh worth ornaments looted

PANVEL: Two chain
snatchers riding a motor cycle attacked a pedestrian and snatched
gold ornaments worth
about Rs 1.25 lakhs on
Sunday afternoon.
The victim, Savita

Rasayani, had come to
Takka area of Panvel to
attend the engagedment of a relative. As
she was walking towards her destination
at about 2.00 pm, two
motor cycle borne desperados attacked her
and snatched her orna-

1.25 lakhs. Wakdikar
tried to raise an alarm
but before help could
reach her, the culprits
had driven away. Panvel city police has registered a complaint
and started investigation.

reply to a question on
the provision of housing

“The process of allotting houses to the eligible mathadis is in
progress according to a

dated 20.06.2014. And

PANVEL: In a tragic
incident on 3 March, a
three year old boy accidentally slipped into an
open water tank and
drowned.
The victim, Aryan
Bhandari had come to
Panvel with his parents where they were
being hosted by a family staying in Waghilkar
Wadi. At around noon,
when everyone else was

which lay unprotected.
In the course of his
play, Aryan slipped into
the tank where he got
drowned. The family
came to know about the
incident only after
about half an hour.

Kejriwal should not lose
the advantage
By effecting the removal of Prashant
Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav from the Political Affairs Committee of the Aam Aadmi
Party, the dominant faction of the AAP that
stands solidly behind national convener Arvind Kejriwal signalled that it would not tolerate any dissidence in the organisation.
Kejriwal is no doubt the face of the party
and is central to the party’s fortunes both as
Delhi Chief Minister and a front-line leader
of the AAP. The AAP has taken great pride
in differentiating itself from other parties.
Kejriwal had talked a lot about transparency
and democratic processes.
Kejriwal should realize that politics revolving around a personality cult is dangerous.
He should not follow the example of NehruGandhi family by surrounding himself with
a coterie of subservient second-rung leaders.
He should make a solid strategy to strengthen the democratic structure of his party. If
he wants to rule India one day, it is very necessary that he strengthen the organizational base of the party.
AAP needs to evolve a system that will be
right for India’s future. Internal democracy
of AAP is in question since its beginning.
That’s the problem faced by every new party
that is formed. But Kejriwal should learn
from the experiences of other parties which
ruled India in the past and realize at once
that centralization of power to self is not a
good sign for future politics. History proves
that one man party is not long lasting. AAP’s
politics should not be centralized to Kejriwal.
There is no doubt that Kejriwal is the chief
architect of AAP. Kejriwal and his close supporters should reflect, retrace and consolidate AAP’s victory without indulging in bickerings. Kejriwal surely is the face of the party and has to lead it from the front. But taking along those who are held by people as
good, straight forward, brainy and backbone
of the Party is the need of the hour. They
need to have control of the party but should
develop finesse to have it without appearing
to do so. That is the real art of running political parties. Sooner AAP realizes this and acts
as a mature party, better it will be for the
party.
Kejriwal has become an ‘icon’ of change
who dreams of a new political system in the
country unlike traditional politics. Even now,
common people feel ‘AAP’ means Arvind
Kejriwal’. This is a new Party with a lot of
‘dreams’. So, Kejriwal should first remove
all the loopholes from the party and then
enter areas outside Delhi step by step because it is not so easy to bring reformations
in traditional political system. Yes, it is necessary to remove people with vested personal interests who have trespassed into AAP
and replace them by people who harbor the
same dreams like their leader. Unless this is
done, the party can’t progress.

Why Maharashtra beef ban
is a good decision?
After the President gave his assent to the law
concerning banning beef in the state, many angry liberals broke out in a long tirade over the
internet. Many are understandably furious over Government’s intrusion on their dinner tables.
Besides respecting the sentiments of India’s majority of population,
here are some reasons why beef banning law is a good idea. A research
conducted by Bard College of New York states that –
• Carbon footprint of beef is higher than that produced by cars.
• Beef production emits enormous amounts of green house gases. Of
all the elements that contribute to unnatural climate change, beef production accounts to more than 25%.
• The environment suffers vastly due to leather and tannery industries.
• Whatever the reasons to ban beef maybe, the study shows that the
water footprint of beef production is many times higher than required
by any other meat. For eg – Water required to produce one kilo of chicken is three times less than used to produce same amount of beef.
• Concerning the economics of buying food grains over meat, the
research shows that over 70% of food grains are used for feeding livestock to raise them for meat.
The basis for the ban might be political, but there are much substantial reasons for everyone to support the ban on beef.

I was shocked about the sudden demise of a veteran journalist and
author Vinod Mehta after prolonged illness.
He was one of the best Indian journalists.
He has done yeoman service to both journalists and readers alike. He was a very
good writer and a much better Editor.
He was the founder of Outlook magazine and served as its editor in chief. He
has served as the editor of publications The Pioneer, The Sunday Observer, The Independent and The Indian Post.
He was a beacon for free, fair and unbiased reporting and had laid the ground for
bolder magazine.
India will miss his irreverent valiant voice.
May his soul rest in peace!

Saina surrenders
After showing early promise, Saina Nehwal surrendered the initiative and lost the final two sets to hand over the title in a platter. Saina
was at her best in the first game and she lost the initiative owing to lack
of killer instinct. The score line of 16-21, 21-14,
21-7 revealed the real story. Thus Nehwal failed
to become first Indian woman to win All England
Championship. Both Prakash Padukone and Pulela Gopichand had achieved the feat in Men’s circuit.
Saina Nehwal lost to Carolina Marin in All
England Badminton final despite having a better
seeding than her Spanish opponent. Saina made
hard weather of the situation and made a number of mistakes to finish runners up. As per the
seeding, the World No 3 was the clear favourite
going into the summit clash against World Champion Marin in a fighting final.
Though the All England is technically just one of the five super series premier events in a calendar year, it holds a special place in the
hearts of every Indian and even Saina had always insisted that winning
the tournament was an emotional moment for her since she wanted to
emulate Indian men’s champions.

` 2 cr budget provided for free underground
sewage line connection for Panvelites

PANVEL: The Panvel Municipal Council’s
budget for 2015-16 has
set aside Rs 2 cr for the
proposed underground
sewage line connection
for the housing societies to private owners of
flats, etc. However the
residents have to pay
the minimum deposit
and drainage charges,
says a PMC official.
It can be noted that
amidst high political
drama the current dispensation had earlier
announced that free
sewage line connection
will be done by PMC.
The main sewage line
will be connected to the
CHS or private property sewage lines. But
nothing comes free as
per the official comment.
The PMC City Engineer in Charge S B
Katekar said, “We
have set aside Rs 2 cr
for the sewage line connection to our main
line connection. This
will include the excavation and other related activities.” About
the minimum fees, he
agreed that they have
to pay.
Quoting a PMC of-
ficial, a resident has to
pay Rs 4000 as deposit
and Rs 2000 for drainage charges. The citizens have to pay minimum Rs 6000/- to avail
the service. The official
had also stated that additional charges for digging up the road, etc
will be borne by the
PMC. This is how the
budget provision in
2015-16 will give some
respite. With the PMC
coming to the rescue
from the next fiscal
year it seems that the
residents will not be
able to avail the service
during this fiscal year.

women safety issues.
The ten point agenda
handed over to the ST
official includes need to
show sensitivity towards female, giving of
priority to girls, etc.
The letter was hand-
ed over to the MSRTC
officials by Sushil
Jadhav and others. It
also cautioned that if
the MSRTC officials remain silent then the
culprits will get the free
hand. The SPM members also highlighted
that inconvenience
caused to school and
college going girls
should immediately be
reported to the police.
They have also
handed over a twenty
point agenda with
emergency police con-
tact numbers. They
have also highlighted
the sordid situation at
the rural level. They
also demanded that the
basic information related to women safetry
should be given to the
people in rural area.
Further, they have
demanded that ST on
its own should publish
the information and circulate among the commuters or passengers.

Road concretisation will cost ` 2.5 cr

NAVI MUMBAI: The Agnels girls team participated in the U-14 basketball
tournament conducted in
Aurangabad by the District
Sports Office. The team
made its maiden venture
into the finals and bagged
the runners–up position.
Darshana Dipak and Ishita Surve were selected to
represent Maharashtra at the national level. It was a proud moment
for Fr. Agnel as Darshana is the first
from the girl’s team to attend the
prestigious India Camp.
The U-14 girls and boys National Basketball coaching camp was
held by the Sports Authority of India at NSWC Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The camp was held from 9 to 28
February 2015. In all, 20 girls and
21 boys from all over the country par-
ticipated in the camp.
Players from Punjab, Assam, West Bengal, Odisha,
Chattisgarh, Madhya
Pradesh, Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh,
Kerala and Maharashtra
availed the coaching facilities provided by the organisers. Darshan Dipak from
Navi Mumbai, Sudhiksha
Nair from Pune and Nilesh
Yadav from Mumbai North were the
participating members from Maharashtra. The camp was a development camp . The head coach was Mr.
Bharat Bhushan while the assistant
coach was Mr. Babu Davis. The participants were put through a rigorous regimen of passing and dribbling
skills. The camp aimed at honing
the skills of the participants and preparing them to eventually represent
the country at international levels.

PANVEL: The proposed road concretisation work on four roads
in Panvel will cost the
civic body a hoping Rs
2.5 cr. The funds will
be used for laying new
water supply pipelines. The budgetary
provisions have been
made for the same in
2015-16 budget.
The Panvel Municipal Council’s city engineer in-charge S B
Katekar said, “We have
made a budget provision for laying new water supply pipelines.
The pipelines will be
laid on the proposed
road on which concretization work is being
mooted.” He added,
“The roads include Thana naka road, Ambedkar road, Tapal Naka
road and the Uran
raod.”
These roads are
most of the time found
busy. However, with
the load of traffic growing at a fast rate the
road concretization
work will be initiated.
This will put additional burden on various
services so as to maintain the required pace.
Keeping in mind the
requirements of various services, the PMC
will have to give proper
thought ahead of the
time and also to future
requirements. The road
concretization plan
once started will leave
little room for other requirements like power
supply, cabling system
etc.
The MMRDA is
learnt to have been
conducting a survey
for the said road concretization projects.
Once the survey is
completed the requisites will be available.
Based on the findings,
detailed action plan will
be initiated so that future damage to the road
due to various service
requirements will be
minimized.
