` 87.91 crore worth civic works cleared
By Vijay Bhor/
Chandrashekhar Hendve
CBD-BELAPUR: NMMC’s Standing Committee has given approvals to a series of
civic works totaling Rs
87.91 crores during its
last sitting on 13 February, 2015. Among
the major works cleared
is the reconstruction of
the fire station at Vashi.
The project, to come up
on a plot admeasuring
5,401 sq meters, includes the construction
of a modern fire station
with parking space for
six fire tenders and 200
four wheelers.
There will also be
space for 22 twowheelers. Further, it includes
the construction of
six two BHK and
25 one BHK residential apartments meant for
the staffers.
In addition, there
will be a commercial
complex having 33 office units. The entire
complex is expected to
be properly landscaped
and beautified.
NMMC has received
three bids for the work,
the lowest one being Rs
56,70,89, 353 against
the official estimate of
Rs 43.65 crores. Two
other tenders are for
amounts exceeding Rs
61 crores each. Though
the project has been
‘cleared’ by the Standing Committee, the tender documents are yet
to be screened by the
building department.
Other
major
projects cleared include
the construction of a
fire station at Ko-
perkhairane at the cost
of Rs 7.25 crores, renovation of the talao at
MIDC, Mahape at a
cost of Rs 2.15 crores
and the construction of
a daily bazaar in Sector-1A, CBD. Yet another proposa – by the
social welfare department -l refers to the distribution of 2,500 bicycles to school children
belonging to OBC category. There is also a
proposal for the construction of a crematorium in Koperkhairane.
The speed with
which these proposals
were cleared suggests
that the members are
anxious about the coming election which is
less than two months
away.
Save a life……
India will soon become a much stronger
economic power than
it was few years back.
So we can soon expect to get more donations from public.
APMC Traffic Branch & Radhee Foundation had organized “Save A Life - give Way to Ambulance” program

Skeleton found in the
jungle in Uran identified
Smart detection by the police pays off
By Vikram Gaikwad
URAN: The abandoned half burnt remains of a human being has been identified
as that of a 15-year old
girl from Kelawane village in Panvel taluka.
And the culprit turns
out to be none other
than her father.
The discovery of a
half burnt body, most of
it reduced to a skeleton,
had remained a challenging mystery for the
police. It was found
abandoned in a jungle
on Indrayani hill in
Kelvan village on Sunday last. The cops also
found a human skull,
flowers and agarbattis
in the place which deepened the mystery. They
also found a vanity bag
with a bracelet, pendent and violent-blue
clothes and other items
used by girls in their
make up. The police
had collected the remains of the body and
sent it for chemical examination to the forensic lab in Kalina. The
lab had come to the conclusion that the remains belonged to a girl
of 15 or 16 years of age.
Accordingly the investigators started inquiries.
The only clue they
had was the name ‘Siddhi’ inscribed in the
pendant. When they
went out the adjoining
villages to find out if
anyone of that name
had gone missing, they
leant that one Siddhi
Gharat from Kelwan
village had indeed gone
missing and missing
persons complaint had
also been registered
with the Uran police. So
the needle of suspicion
pointed at her family
and her father, Sunil
Gharat (36) was subjected to intensive cross
examination. At some
stage he broke down
and confessed to the
crime. His explanation
was that Siddhi was
given to stealing valuables from home and
disappearing. Disap-
proving her behavior,
he decided to teach her
a lesson and took her to
the wooden hill on the
excuse of showing her
new clothes where, ‘in
a fit of rage’ he said he
had strangled using her
dupatta. Then to erase
evidence he poured kerosene on the body and
went away as though
nothing had happened.
1. During the investigation, the police
also learnt that after
her death, Sunil had
collected her mobile
phone and sold it to
some shop for Rs 450.
He also took all the
items like flowers and
agarbattis for performing her last rites and
returned home somewhat satisfied.
PI Abhay Mahajan
under guidance from
DCP Yenpure, investigated and cracked the
case along with his
team members.

Since Nirabai had been

matters worse, lately
Nirabai had made
preparations for raising a pucca house on
the plot and unloaded a
truck load of bricks for
the purpose. That was
provocation enough for
the Pawar brothers.
On Friday, they entered Nirabai’s house

Labour union to intensify
protest against All Cargo
By Umesh Parida
URAN: The labourers
of All Cargo will go for
a massive protest if
their demands are not
met within a few days.
This was threatened by
labour leader Mahendra
Gharat. The workers
have been protesting for
the last seventeen days.
The dispute was
raised after the dues of
the workers were not
paid. The agreement
between the TDW and
the company management could not be inked
leading to delay in
clearance of the workers’ dues. The issue has
been pending for over a
year as is alleged by the
workers.
The TDW workers
union head Kersi
Parekh, secretary Mr
Raman and others
held a meeting with
Mahendra Gharat. If
the demand of the
workers is not met
within the next few
days then the workers
will intensify their protest, it was decided.

The top party has become
a flop party
The Congress failed to win even a single
seat in the Assembly elections in Delhi. This
could be because of the resistance within the
party. The resistance comes from those younger leaders who do not see a future for themselves under the leadership of heir apparent
Rahul Gandhi who has been installed as party
president. An overwhelming majority in the
party believes he does not have what it takes:
he has neither demonstrated the ability to sustain an idea or the hard work demanded of a
full-time politician in a leadership role. There
are now open whispers in party circles of a
possible split in the party should Gandhi be
elevated.
Until the ‘Gandhi’ family vacate their seats
at the head of the table and allow the introduction of fresh young leaders, as well as
change their policies from ‘Pseudo-Secularism’ to nationalistic and developmental ones,
the slide of the Congress/UPA will continue.
People have realised that they cannot be
fooled by the Gandhi name anymore. People
want real improvements in their lives, both
economically and environmentally as well as
the eradication of corruption.
The popular perception of Congress today
is that it is steeped in corruption, suffers from
leadership crisis and no longer serious about
national security issues. They must first acknowledge that this is their image and take
ruthless action to weed out the corrupt and
incompetent whoever it may be – may it be
even Gandhi family. Till then there is no hope.
The Congress of the Mahatma is not the
Congress of today. There is no need to feel
any sympathy to this scam-ridden minorityappeasing colonial dynastic shame and think
about ways to revive it. The Congress is decimated for good.
On a deeper look, we can see that people
have rejected not only Congress but almost
all tradtional political outfits, CPM, CPI, DMK,
NCP, BSP, SP, JD and now BJP. People have
realized all these parties and their leaders have
secret agenda of their own which are inconsistent with the needs, aspirations and sensitivities of common man. It is not only the
people but the party cadres who have also lost
faith in their leaders. The present crisis is of
credibility deficit of Indian political leaders,
that is is there exists a leadership vacuum.
We need Men like Kejriwal in every State. Do
we have them?
Well the “figure zero” was certainly unexpected from a party who were the champions
of the Indian National Movement during the
days of British India. The party has lost its
sheen after the demise of Mahatma Gandhi.
The Congress is digging its own grave by
obstinately insisting on having Gandhi family
as its leader. This family is a flop leader and
this has been proven by the defeat of Congress in probably every election it has undertaken under Gandhi family’s leadership.

Crematorium for pets
needed in Navi Mumbai
I want to highlight a very serious issue through
your paper regarding the cremation/burial ground
in Navi Mumbai. The authorities had totally neglected this issue which is a long pending demand of many animal lovers.
There is a special bond between people and their beloved pets and this
bond cannot be measured. We can never repay the unconditional love and
affection our pets provide us.
The final farewell to our beloved pet should be filled with respect and
dignity they deserve. But due to non availability of crematorium/ burial
ground most of the corpses of dogs/ animals which die on the road or in
shelters are simply discarded away in garbage trucks.
When faced with the death of family pet, many people believe that full
funeral or cremation is in order, but where can they perform such a rite?
In Navi Mumbai, animal lovers are totally deprived of the facilities
and animals’ crematorium to perform the last rite of their dead pets with
full respect and dignity.
It is very sad that the whole city has only one crematorium for dogs,
cats and other animals which is situated in BSPCA, Parel.
It is our demand that Government or local authorities should build
another crematorium in Navi Mumbai so that animal lovers can do their
beloved pets’ last rite with full honour and respect.

and calm the situation
but the latter were arrogant. They collected
a crowd and started attacking the interveners. Sore over the incident, the legal rikshaw

declared a strike. They
also went to local police

their grievances. That

have withdrawn their

Swine Flu has affected part of the country. In Navi Mumbai, it is
spreading slowly and steadily in epidemic form. A number of people are
undergoing tests in Navi Mumbai but the line of treatment appears to be
not effective.
This is not the first time we are handling such a ticklish situation in
a most ridiculous way. After all human life is costly and nothing can
compensate the loss of life. As a matter of fact, outsiders from UP and
Bihar bring Swine Flu to satellite city. It is shame that the doctors and
government machinery come cropper and fail at such a crucial juncture.
Instead of attending the cases on war footing the action by the NMMC is
rather slow and requires further follow up.
More and more Children are being tested positive and few deaths this
year has caused great reason for concern not only in Navi Mumbai but
also in the suburbs. The symptoms are very clear and the government
machinery should act immediately. We waited for too long to tackle this
ailment and allowed the situation to go out of hand with government
lacking control over it.
Likewise, Swine Flue has spread in an epidemic form and it is high
time to treat the patients in the best way possible. That is my clarion call.
