J. Allen D. Cooper, Jr., MD
Dr. Allen Cooper completed
his undergraduate studies
at Northwestern University.
He completed his medical
degree at Duke University
in 1978. His postgraduate
training included an
internship at the University
of Washington, a residency
at the University of Virginia, and a fellowship in pulmonary/
critical care medicine at Yale University. He joined the
Yale faculty in 1985 and had risen to the rank of Assistant
Professor of Medicine prior to coming to the University of
Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Cooper joined the Division of
Pulmonary, Allergy & Critical Care Medicine in 1988, where
he rose to the rank of Professor of Medicine. He served as
Director of the Pulmonary, Allergy & Critical Care Medicine
Fellowship Training Program from 1998-2013. He is Chief
of the Pulmonary Section, and Medical Director, Respiratory
Therapy, Department of Veterans Affairs, Birmingham VAMC.
