Making soap and bubble bath is now so easy.
The Spa Craft range offers a wide variety of dry
botanicals, exfoliants, fragrances and colours, to
add endless possibilities to your creativity.
Soap Making
The basic technique:
Cut the amount of soap you want to use
with a kitchen knife. 400g (14oz approx) will
make 2 medium size bars of soap depending
on the mould you are using. Slice the soap
into small pieces for quick melting. Place into
a plastic or glass jug and microwave in 15
second intervals until melted. Take care not
to overheat as this will discolour the soap.
Alternatively melt gently in a bowl over a
metal pan of simmering water, taking care
not to over heat. Do not leave unattended as
the soap base melts quickly. Once your soap
base is melted pour into the soap moulds.
Pouring soap:
The soap bar will be easier to remove if you
do not fill completely to the top of the mould.
Once set, place in the freezer for 20 mins to
make removal easier.
Extra ingredients - Colours:
Add 1 drop of diluted colour, adding a drop
at a time until you have reached the desired
colour. Try mixing the colours, to create other
colours or shades.
Fragrance:
This is normally added at 0.5-2%, i.e. 5-20ml
per kilo of soap. This should be added at
pouring temperature.
Dry botanicals:
When adding dry botanicals and exfoliants
fill the mould halfway with the soap base, let
this set first, then sprinkle the botanical on
top then top up the remainder of the mould
with the soap base. You can also sprinkle
the botanicals on the top of the soaps for
decoration.
Finished soaps should be wrapped if kept for
long periods. It can attract moisture from the
air or lose weight by drying out.

Caution:
Please ensure you read these instructions
before starting. When melted the soap base
will be hot. Always take care and do not
allow children to play with the heat source or
any hot liquid. Adult supervision is required
at all times. Do not leave any heated product
unattended while children are present. Hot
soap can burn when in contact with the
skin. Melt & Pour soap should be allowed to
cool slowly. Make sure the product has set
completely when using, moving or removing
from moulds.
Melt & Pour soap should suit all skin
types but in the event that any irritation or
adverse reaction is experienced wash well
with cold water and discontinue use. High
levels of fragrances may irritate skin. Use
fragrances and colours sparingly and consult
a good soap making book for recipes or for
information on oils to avoid or which have
specific hazards.
Take care when using fragrances. Always
check a small amount of soap base to make
sure the product is compatible. Always
add fragrances when the base is cooling
rather than hot. All fragrances are very
concentrated. You need only small amounts
in most cases. Never take these products
internally and always keep out of reach of
children.
Store at room temperature in an air tight
container as it may develop a sticky / wet
surface if exposed to air or kept in cold
temperatures. Moving the product to a
warmer temperature will quickly solve this
problem. Wrap the finished soap in cling film,
plastic or bubble wrap.
Bubble Bath
Making
Spa Craft makes making bubble bath,
body wash or hand wash easy. Simply
weigh out an appropriate amount (100g or
approximately 4 oz.) of the base into a clean
dry plastic cup. Add up to about 0.5% (about
20 drops) of the selected fragrance, 1 or 2
drops of colour and mix well with a spoon
or ice lolly stick. It is always best to leave
blends for a few hours to let any trapped
bubbles rise to the surface before filling into
bottles. It is possible to make the bubble
bath thicker by stirring in some salt solution.
Make a simple salt solution by dissolving a
tablespoon of table salt in a cup of warm
water and add 1 teaspoonful of salt solution
to a cupful of bubble bath. The thickened
bubble bath can be used as a shower gel or
hand wash gel. Remember, it will take longer
for bubbles to rise out of a thick product than
a thinner one – and it will be more difficult to
fill into bottles.
