MARCH 22, 2015
To die and rise should happen every day but not everybody buys
such a drastic way to come alive.

discussing Sunday’s Gospel throughout the week.
Adult
When and in what way have you seen life come from death?

th
Weekly Justice Challenge - 5 Week of Lent: March 22 is World Water Day. The
foundation of all Catholic social teaching is respect for the life and dignity of every
human person. Fundamental to both life itself and life lived with dignity is access to
clean water. Around the world, millions of people—elderly people, children, and all
ages in between—suffer because of a scarcity of water. Your challenge this week is
two-fold. First, examine how your family uses water. Do you conserve it as a precious
and God-given resource which is not unlimited? Pay attention to how much water you
waste (e.g., letting water run while you are brushing your teeth instead of just using it to
get your toothbrush wet at the beginning and to rinse at the end). Discuss how you can
limit your use of water and commit to it—at least for the rest of the Lenten season. Secondly, decide on one
way you can support people in areas of the world which do not have clean water. You might want to research
particular programs of Catholic Relief Services which help people dig wells or purify contaminated water. (Go
to www.crs.org for details). Then make a donation on behalf of those denied dignity by helping them receive
life-giving water.

NCYC ~ FINAL CALL!!
th
NCYC 2015: November 19 -21, 2015 Registration and deposit
is due tomorrow. If you have any questions, please email me TODAY: [email protected]. Thank
you! Not all forms are in, but I think that we will have at least 15 teens and 4 adults. I am praying for a few
more to answer the call!
th
WORD: Tuesday, March 24 , 7-8:30. Penance Service is also scheduled for this evening. I will
be in the Warehouse to share some of what I experienced in Jamaica, or we can attend the
service together. Either way… I’ll be there! See you Tuesday <><
th
10 Grade Overnight Retreat~ was held this weekend at Sylvan Hills
Christian Service Camp in Howard and we will return Good Shepherd
around 12:15 today. Thank you for lifting us in prayer on our journey
towards Confirmation.
WORD’s Dessert Team: We only have one week left before Holy Week! Thank you
to so many who have helped support our teens headed to
NCYC this fall. If you would still like to donate a baked good
for next week, please do!
Thank you for all of the prayers for safety in Jamaica.
While physically exhausting, it was spiritually uplifting. We renewed old
friendships and built new ones with our brothers and sisters in Maggotty as
well as with new Good Shepherd friends! Check out some of the photos on
the Good Shepherd Facebook page today! Here I am with Odjuhni, the
grandson of Mr. Salmon, whose house we finished. (I climbed on the roof
to patch holes… look out… a new calling?)
<>< In today’s Gospel found in John 12, we hear Jesus tell us that “Unless a grain of wheat falls
to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.” How
has your Lenten season been? Have you died to all things of yourself? Have you “emptied
yourself of YOU and filled yourself with JESUS? Just imagine the fruit that you will produce if so...
Love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control. It’s
never too late! <>< It’s been wonderful watching each of you bloom!
“I am troubled now. Yet what should I say?
‘Father, save me from this hour’?
But it was for this purpose that I came to this hour.”
Thank you, Jesus, for accepting the cross for me…
Blessings, Elaine <><
