Mission Statement
We, the Parish Family of Saint Valentine, are a Roman Catholic Community within the local church of the Archdiocese of Newark. The
celebration of the Mass and the Sacraments is central to our identity as a parochial community which worships God in fellowship with family,
neighbors and friends. Sharing the Eucharist empowers us to be a sign of the Kingdom of God present among us, yet ever becoming more a
reality, as we follow Christ, proclaiming his Gospel and witnessing to his teaching. Through liturgical worship and the ministries of the Church,
we are enabled to love each other in our service of God. THEREFORE, we the Parish Community of Saint Valentine, are dedicated to serving
others within and outside ourselves, as we strive to deepen our own commitment to the Lord and to announce the Good News of salvation in
Christ.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS
“ I will be their God and they shall be my
people.” JEREMIAH 31:33.
What does it mean to be God’s people? It
means we recognize that everything we have
and everything we are belongs to God. We
aren’t “owners” of anything, we are merely
“stewards” of the gifts God has given us. It
means we are willing to use our gifts and our
lives to care for our neighbors and the world,
just as God cares for us.

A MESSAGE FROM
THE PASTOR’S DESK
Dear Parishioners:
In this remaining days of Lent, God invites us to
come back to Him to be cleansed of the
corruption and influence of the sinful world, and
to be healed in our souls so that we may learn to
do His will, and become His people again.
When human being don’t want to convert and
come back to God, then history repeats itself and
we get lost in our selfishness, and make our
selfish goals the most important thing in our lives
- and thus, we lose our soul.
To correct this self destructive and soul
destructive behavior in us, God sent His Son to
show us the way back to the Father by becoming
human so that we humans would follow His lead.
And the way back is through the cross; that’s
why when the disciples told Jesus that there were
some Greeks who wanted to see Him, Jesus says
that “The hour has come for the Son of Man to
be glorified.”
Jesus is talking about going to the cross to be
killed. The glory of God is shown in the
martyrdom of Jesus and also in every Christian
who is killed for the sake of Christ. It is not about
the killing but about the loving. God is glorified
when we are about to love even our enemies; that
with the same love of Jesus, Christians are able to
love others more than their very own lives
(Philippians 2).
That’s why Jesus tells us that “unless a grain of
wheat falls to the ground and dies” it cannot grow
to become a useful plant. If the seed does not
give its life to become a seedling, and then grow
up to become a full grown plant, it just remains a
dud. God created us not become duds, but to die
to our selfishness and grow up in the love of
Christ and be filled with eternal life.
