Game Notes
OPENING FACE-OFF
The fifth-ranked Bullets play their Centennial Conference opener as they host the Haverford College Fords
this afternoon.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Gettysburg leads Haverford 32-3 in the all-time series
that dates back to 1980, and the Bullets have captured
the last five meetings. The Fords’ last series win was an
11-8 victory in the 2010 Centennial Conference championship game.
LAST TIME OUT
Senior Robby Maddux scored four goals while
freshman Connor Sweeney won 16-of-25 face-offs
to lead the Bullets to a 15-9 victory at previouslyunbeaten Eastern University this past Saturday.
The two sides were tied 3-3 at the end of the first
quarter before the Bullets opened up a gap with
a 5-0 run over a nine-minute span in the second
quarter. Gettysburg, which outshot Eastern 54-32,
then put the game away with another 5-0 spurt that
overlapped the final two quarters. Senior Brendan
Morris added three goals for the Bullets while his
twin brother, Jimmy Morris, added two goals and one
assist. Freshman goalie Tim Brady led the defense
with 10 saves – his second-highest total of the season
– while junior defenseman Geoff Davis posted five
ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Haverford suffered a 15-4 loss to then-No. 16 York
(Pa.) College at home on Saturday. The Fords never
led after the Spartans scored the game’s first five
goals. Four different players accounted for Haverford’s
four goals while freshman Patrick Girard finished with
one goal and one assist. Junior Eric Caliendo turned
aside eight shots between the pipes for the Fords.
BACK IN THE TOP-5
The Bullets are off to their best start since the 2010
team opened the year 9-0. So it seems only fitting
that the Orange and Blue have also captured their
first top-five national ranking since 2010, when
Gettysburg closed out the season ranked No. 4. The
Bullets have defeated three nationally-ranked teams
on the season, including two (No. 3 Lynchburg, No. 7
Salisbury) that were among the top-10 at the time of
their meeting.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK, X2
For the second week in a row, senior Robby Maddux
has been named the Centennial Conference Offensive
Player of the Week after posting nine goals and two
assists in a 2-0 week. He posted five goals and two
assists in a 12-6 victory versus then-No. 16 York (Pa.)
College, then tossed in four goals in a 15-9 win at
Eastern University.
MOVIN’ ON UP
With his third goal against York, senior Robby Maddux
broke into Gettysburg’s career top-10 list for goals. He
is currently ranked eighth in school history with 126 tallies and trails Neill Mitchell ’83 for seventh by just two
goals.
BROTHER ACT
In Gettysburg’s 15-9 victory at Eastern, senior twin
brothers Brendan and Jimmy Morris connected on a
goal for the first time in their careers at Gettysburg,
with Brendan scoring and Jimmy providing the assist on
a goal early in the fourth quarter. The two have combined for 13 goals and seven assists on the season.
AMONG THE CONFERENCE/NATIONAL LEADERS
Several Bullets are ranked among the Centennial Conference and Division III statistical leaders, including
senior Robby Maddux, who leads the conference in
both goals (21) and points (27). Junior Jameson Smith
is close behind, ranking second in goals (17) and third
in points (19), while sophomore Sean Fumai is tied for
first in assists (10). In addition, sophomore long-stick
midfielder Chris Palladino ranks fourth in ground balls
(23) and is tied for seventh in caused turnovers (eight).
Among the NCAA Division III leaders, Maddux is 14th in
goals per game (3.50) while freshman goalie Tim Brady
is 22nd in goals-against average (6.17).
SCOUTING THE FORDS
 Haverford had won three straight games before its
15-4 loss to York this past Saturday. Prior to that game,
the Fords knocked off Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.) 18-6,
FDU-Florham 13-6, and Gwynedd-Mercy 10-9.
 Senior Geoff Gespert has led the Fords offensively
with 10 goals and two assists while sophomore Chase
Williams has contributed nine goals and one helper.
Junior Eric Caliendo has played every minute in goal,
going 3-3 with 67 saves.
