GETTYSBURG vs. YORK (Pa.) MUSSELMAN STADIUM

Game Notes
OPENING FACE-OFF
The eighth-ranked Bullets face their third nationallyranked opponent of the season as they host No. 16
York (Pa.) College this afternoon in a non-conference
affair.
ALL-TIME SERIES
This afternoon’s contest marks the first-ever meeting
between Gettysburg and York in men’s lacrosse.
LAST TIME OUT
Senior Robby Maddux scored the game-winning goal
with 7.5 seconds left as the Bullets rallied with two
goals in the final minute to beat No. 3 Lynchburg
College 7-6 here at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium
this past Sunday. With his team trailing 6-5, junior
Jameson Smith tied the game at 6-6 with 50 seconds
left before Maddux converted off a cross from junior
Paul Werner. Maddux and Smith each finished with
three goals while sophomore Sean Fumai dished out
a pair of assists. Sophomore long-stick midfielder
Chris Palladino posted five ground balls and two
caused turnovers while freshman goalie Tim Brady
saved six shots and registered a key caused turnover
late in the game.
Freshman Matt Whitcher forced overtime when he
scored with eight seconds left, but Messiah College
scored as the overtime clock expired, lifting the
Falcons to an 8-7 victory over the Spartans in York this
past Saturday. Senior Tyler Hutson notched two goals
and three assists to lead York while junior Andrew
Gamble also scored two goals. Junior Caleb Abney
made nine saves in goal.
BACK IN THE TOP-10
The Bullets have broken into the USILA top-10 for
the first time since March 11, 2013, when they
were tabbed No. 10. It also followed a victory over
Lynchburg, also ranked No. 3 at the time. Gettysburg’s
No. 8 ranking is the program’s highest mark since the
2010 squad ended the year at No. 4. The Bullets are
off to their best start since the 2010 team opened 9-0.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
A 10-goal, 11-point week earned senior Robby
Maddux the Centennial Conference Offensive Player
of the Week award. He scored a career high seven
goals – two shy of the school record and the most by
a Bullet in 16 years – and dished out one assist in an
18-7 victory at Messiah College before adding three
goals, including the game-winner with 7.5 seconds left,
in a 7-6 win over No. 3 Lynchburg.
THIRD-QUARTER OUTBURST
In Gettysburg’s 18-7 victory over Messiah last Wednesday, the Bullets erupted for 10 goals in the third quarter
to pull away after leading just 4-2 at the half. It was Gettysburg’s highest-scoring quarter since the 2000 team
put up 10 in the second quarter of a 19-6 victory over
Widener University in the second round of the NCAA
Division III tournament. Versus Messiah, six of the 10
goals came off the stick of senior Robby Maddux, who
scored four straight spanning the second and third
quarters.
