As a result of our initial Diversity discussions at the All-Faculty Meeting in August, and in response to recognized remedial action needed for the CEPH Self-Study Diversity criterion, the Department of Biostatistics, Environmental Health Sciences, and Epidemiology voted unanimously, in support of a plan conceptualized by Seyi Balogun (MPH-EPI student), to organize and sponsor an AALANA Diversity Symposium in April, 2015. Fowles, MSPH, DrPH Senior Manager, Office of Epidemiology, Child Health & WIC Programs Georgia Dept. of Public Health, Maternal & Child Health, Atlanta, GA 2014 Distinguished 40 under 40 UGA Alumni Award in Research Adjunct Faculty, Department of Biostatistics, Environmental Health Sciences, and Epidemiology, Kent State University LCDR Niketta A. Womack, MPH (USPHS) U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, Lieutenant Commander, Regulatory Officer, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, College Park, MD Emergency Coordinator, Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, Office of Analytics and Outreach, Food Defense and Emergency Coordination Staff The symposium would include roundtable discussions with local AALANA health department officials; and an informal student “meet and greet” evening reception, including potential BSPH recruits from area high schools. The plan will be introduced to the college Diversity and Inclusion Committee at its meeting on December 5, 2015.
