BATTERY CHARGER
2 Amp 12 Volt/4 Amp 6 Volt SEARS Model 71219
battery charger.
See the separate operating instructions manual included
with the kit for use.
2.
DIGITAL VOLTMETER
This digital voltmeter can be used to measure the battery and
charging system voltage of 6 volt and 12 volt systems. It has
a voltage range of 4.00 to 19.99 volts. NOTE: If you use this
voltmeter outside of the stated voltage range, you will get
inaccurate results. To use:
1. Place the probe on the red cable to the positive (POS, P, +)
battery terminal.
2. Touch the brass probe on the bottom of the voltmeter to the negative
(NEG, N, -) battery terminal.
3. Read the voltage on the digital display, and compare it to the table on the
front of the voltmeter.
3.
BATTERY WRENCHES
Risk of explosive gases.
1. Working in the vicinity of a lead-acid battery is dangerous. Batteries
generate explosive gases during normal battery operation. For this
reason, it is of utmost importance that you follow the instructions each
time you work with a lead acid battery.
2. To reduce the risk of a battery explosion, follow these instructions and
those published by the battery manufacturer and the manufacturer of
any equipment you intend to use in the vicinity of the battery. Review the
cautionary markings on these products and on the engine.
3. NEVER smoke or allow a spark or flame in the vicinity of a battery
or engine.
4. Be extra cautious to reduce the risk of dropping a metal tool onto the
battery. It might spark or short-circuit the battery or other electrical part
that may cause an explosion.
2
Risk of contact with battery acid. Battery acid is a
highly corrosive sulfuric acid.
5. Consider having someone close enough by to come to your aid when you
work near a lead-acid battery.
6. Have plenty of fresh water and soap nearby in case battery acid contacts
your skin, clothing or eyes.
7. Wear complete eye and body protection, including safety goggles and
protective clothing. Avoid touching your eyes while working near
the battery.
8. If battery acid contacts your skin or clothing, immediately wash the area
with soap and water. If acid enters your eye, immediately flood the eye
with cold running water for at least 10 minutes and get medical attention
right away.
9. Always remove the grounded terminal first. Make sure all of the
accessories in the vehicle are off, to prevent arcing.
10. Be careful not to touch the metal parts of the frame or body with the
wrench while removing the ungrounded battery terminal.
11. Clean the battery terminals before removing the battery. During cleaning,
keep airborne corrosion from coming into contact with your eyes, nose
and mouth. Use baking soda and water to neutralize the battery acid and
help eliminate airborne corrosion. Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth.
12. Add distilled water to each cell until the battery acid reaches the level
specified by the battery manufacturer. Do not overfill.
3.1
USING THE BATTERY TERMINAL WRENCHES
All parts are heat treated and plated for lasting durability and good looks.
Ratcheting Box Wrench opening size: 5/16 in. on one side and 10mm on the
other side
Combination Wrench opening size: 1/2 in.
NOTE: Always remove the grounded terminal first. The ground lead is
connected to the engine block, vehicle frame or some other good metallic
ground. The battery terminal connected to the starter is the one which is
not grounded. All vehicles manufactured in the U.S.A. after 1955 have the
negative battery terminal grounded. All European and Asian passenger
vehicles have been negative ground since 1971. Consult the vehicle owner’s
manual and follow all instructions.

3.2
USING THE 5/16 SIDE TERMINAL or 10mm TOP TERMINAL WRENCH
1. While holding the insulated handle, apply the wrench to the negative (-)
battery terminal.
2. Begin ratcheting to remove the battery connector nuts/bolts from both the
negative (-) and the positive (+) battery terminals.
3. Remove the battery terminal connectors.
4. To replace the battery connectors, begin with the positive (+) battery
terminal first. Insert the bolt into the side terminal, or thread the nut onto
the battery connector bolt. Switch the thumb pawl on the wrench to
reverse the ratcheting action.
5. Using the wrench, tighten the positive (+) connector and then repeat the
procedure with the negative (-) connector.
3.3
USING THE 1/2 in. TOP TERMINAL BATTERY WRENCH
1. While holding the wrench, apply it to the negative (-) battery terminal.
2. Begin unscrewing the battery connector nuts to remove the connector
from both the negative (-) and the positive (+) battery terminals.
3. Remove the battery terminal connectors.
4. To replace the battery connectors, begin with the positive (+) battery
terminal first. Thread the nut onto the battery connector bolt.
5. Using the wrench, tighten the positive (+) nut and then repeat the
procedure with the negative (-) nut.

remove the battery cable connectors.
2. Use the brush as it comes in the kit to clean top mounted battery terminals
by placing the brush over the terminal and twisting.
