For more information contact [email protected] Cycle against suicide is a voluntary organisation which aims to raise awareness of the many supports and help available to those battling depression, self-harm, at risk of suicide or those bereaved by suicide. Bantry has been chosen as an overnight stop this year for the charity cycle on May 4th. The event is 400 km cycle tour of Ireland over 14 days, with Colaiste Pobail Bheanntrai being the main assembly area for the event in Bantry. Participants from a wide variety of backgrounds choose to cycle some or all of the stages, and it’s expected that up to 1000 cyclists will arrive in Bantry on the evening of May 4th. Central to its success is the ‘Homestay’ programme. People from across the country open their homes to the participants, provide them with a warm meal, a chance to freshen up and a bed for the night. We are looking for accommodation for up to 300 cyclists; if you can offer a room we would be very grateful. This is a very tangible way for everybody to lend support and “together, shoulder to shoulder, we can break the cycle of suicide on the island of Ireland”.
