We welcome all who worship with us today. Visitors are invited to sign the
guest register in the Lobby. People at the Information Desk would like a chance
to welcome guests. If you are interested in joining our family of faith, please talk
with one of our Pastors or Jane Elliott, AIM.
Today we welcome Ollie and Sue Block, Jamie and Tyler Bowman, John and
Nancy McClain, Christine Reinhard, Jim and Sally Ryan, and Bill, Leslie, Isabella
and Tyler Shotwell as new members of Holy Spirit. We welcome them into the
fellowship we share.
Children aren't just welcome, they are embraced. We know kids are in
worship and make noise. The psalmist David said, “make a joyful noise to the
Lord!” It’s great to hear all people respond during worship. If your child should
need a break, there is child care available in room 110. Parents are always welcome to stay with their children there. Parents must sign children in and out of
nursery care.
Clipboards and Bible bags are available for children’s use during worship
and can be found at the main entrance to the worship area.
Members and guests are invited to sign the Friendship Register, pass it down
the row for other worshippers to sign, and introduce yourself to those worshipping around you.
Let your friends know about Holy Spirit by tweeting, checking in, Instagraming,
etc. that you are here. Our congregation's hashtag is #LCHolySpirit. While you
are on your phone or tablet, please make sure it is on silent so you do not disrupt our worship time together.
Prayer cards are available at the Information Desk should you need to
request special prayer. Completed prayer cards may be given to a pastor for
inclusion in the morning prayers. During the week, please notify the church
office if you or a member of your family is hospitalized.
Name Tags: If you have lost or misplaced your name tag and would like a new
one, please email Alice in the church office, [email protected],
or pick up a form at the Information Desk and drop it in the offering plate.
SUNDAY MORNING FAITH FORMATION, 9:45am
This Week: Drug and Alcohol Addiction, Thomas Neel: Drug and alcohol addiction is a disease not a choice. Discussions will focus on the different levels of care
that are offered to treat this disease (there are 4 levels of care) and what levels of
care are offered by Treatment Trends Inc. at the Halfway Home of the Lehigh Valley.
Community support is so important to those struggling with the disease. One way
our church helps out is by providing a meeting place for the New Beginning AA Fellowship on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
FELLOWSHIP & HOSPITALITY...in Room 117/119. Meet and greet sisters and
brothers in Christ. Take time to relax and connect with your church family. All are
welcome.
Next Week: Allentown Rescue Mission, Tom Mohr
The Allentown Rescue Mission has been serving the needs of the homeless and needy
in the Lehigh Valley for over 100 years. Who they are, what they do, and who they
serve changes lives. Emergency shelter, meals, clothing, Chapel services, medical attention, and community services are offered to victims of abuse and addiction, the
mentally ill, and those experiencing hard times. One way our church helps out is
through our benevolent giving.

Thrivent Choice members who participate in the
Thrivent Choice Dollars program: If you have not
already done so, please contact your Thrivent Choice
representative as soon as possible to re-confirm your
participation and to re-designate your Choice Dollars to Holy Spirit, Emmaus
(Thrivent.com / Making a Difference / Thrivent Choice / Direct Choice Dollars /
login to your account / Choose our congregation listed as Holy Spirit, Emmaus).
You only have until March 31st to do so, or we will lose our
donations for the entire year. We are seriously behind last year’s
donations. For the 1st quarter of 2015 we will only receive $1,287 in Choice
Dollars vs $5,823 last year, a shortfall of $4,536 after just 3 months.
February 2015 Financial Results and
Discussion: Operating Performance:
February was another month of poor financial
results. Bad weather continued to affect
attendance, revenue, and operating expenses.
Revenues totaled $55,647 while expenses were $73,666, resulting in a deficit
of $18,019 for the month. Operating revenue was $7,100 short of budget,
largely due to pledge shortfall.
Year to date our revenue is $132,703, while expenses are $160,093, resulting
in a deficit of $27,390 after only two months. Overall revenue through February
is down $15,200 to our budget plan, partly driven by Thrivent contributions,
which are down $4,500. Overall expenses through February are up $5,300 to
budget, mainly due to electricity and service contract expense. We have already
spent $9,830 of our entire year’s $11,000 budget for snow plowing and salting!
On the plus side, Building maintenance was $660 under budget for February.
Available Operating Cash: Because of the large operating deficit to date, our
available operating cash balance has dropped to $35,143. We began the year
with $63,492.
Building Fund: We began the year with a balance of $35,509. The balance is
now $22,769. The final payments have now been made for the HVAC
compressor replacements in the sanctuary and for the classroom HVAC project.
Please Note: If you have been unable to attend church, in order to help sustain
our cash flow we would greatly appreciate it if you could make every effort
possible to catch up or even advance pay part of your planned yearly financial
commitments to our church. In addition, we ask that you prayerfully consider
making an additional donation to help us offset our revenue shortfall and our
heating and snow removal expense. So far in March we have received $1,230 in
donations toward this appeal. Thank you!
