COURSE OVERVIEW
This conference is designed for orthopaedic
practitioners including surgeons, nurse
practitioners, physician assistants, and
physicians in physical medicine disciplines.
A case-based format will be used to explore
the surgical and alternative management
of patients within the subspecialties of
joint replacement, trauma, hand and upper
extremity, foot and ankle, shoulder and knee,
and spine. Each presenter will engage the
audience in an exchange of ideas and opinions
ending with an overview of the best evidence
for the problem(s) highlighted in the case.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of the activity participants
should be able to:
1 Discuss the assessment, diagnosis and
management of the following conditions
• Distal radius fractures
• Patellofemoral instability
• Shoulder instability in the Contact
Athlete
• Spinal pathologies/condition
• Elbow fractures in skeletally immature
patients
• Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis
• Leg length inequalities
• Proximal femur fractures
• Peripheral nerve injury
2 Discuss the current approaches to the use
of local antibiotics in the management of
surgical site infections
3 Review and discuss the indications for
THA and TKA in obese patients
4 Discuss challenges associated with revision
THA for failed metal on metal (MOM)
conditions

Registration fees will be refunded (less a $50
administrative fee) for written cancellations
(emails and faxed requests are acceptable)
received a minimum of 14 days prior to the
activity date. No refunds will be granted
for registration fees of less than $50 or for
cancellations made within 13 days of the
activity.
The University of Virginia School of
Medicine reserves the right to cancel CME
activities if necessary. In this case, the entire
registration fee will be refunded. All other
expenses incurred in conjunction with this
CME activity are the sole responsibility of the
participant.
