HOME FELLOWSHIP OUTLINE
VOL. 11 NO. 12/2015
THEME: LOOKING UNTO JESUS..... HEB.12:2
TODAY'S TOPIC: PLANS FOR THE INCENSE ALTAR
TEXT:
EXOD. 30:1-END
INTRODUCTION:
The chapter deals with the construction of the altar of incense
which was to be used for burning the sweet smelling incense.
As with the ark of the covenant.(25:10), the table of the show
bread (25:23), the altar of burnt offering (27:1), this alter was
made of acacia wood (25:10), All the instruction with regards
to the usage of the altar were clearly stated.

Morning and evening sacrifices are the prescription of
The Lord - Ex.29:38
The accessories and the ritual make the services
pleasing to him - Ex.29:39-41
The routine is for ever - Ex.29:43-46
These make God's commitment - Ex.29:43-46
Incense altars are to specification - Ex.30:1-6
Only Aaron can operate and serve - Ex.30:7-10
Census tax and age commitments are of flat rates for
specific purpose - Ex.30:11-16
Ablution is a duty of specification with serious
sanctions - Ex.39:17-21
Anointing is for the altar and the altar staff –
Ex.39:22-33
Incense blend and use are duty specific - Ex.39:34-38
CONCLUSION
As graphic and compelling as the sacrificial system was, it still
could provide only temporary atonement and forgiveness.
While these sacrifices and offerings served as beautiful pictures
of the final sacrifice of Christ ( John 1:29 ), they could not
provide permanent forgiveness. Only by the grace of God is
such forgiveness possible.

5. THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK
SUNDAY – 22ND MARCH, 2015
TODAY’S TOPIC: THE BENEFITS OF HIS VICTORY
SUB-THEME: JESUS EARNS VICTORY FOR US
READINGS: Psalm 22:23-34; Jeremiah 31:31-34; Heb 9:11- 14;
John 12:20-32; Psalm 28; Lamentation 3:19-23; Luke 23:26-49.
In the name of our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ we welcome you to
this worship service this Sunday. It is another wonderful privilege to
be among those that will worship Him today and to partake in His
abundant blessing. May this season of lent bring spiritual rejuvenation
to us all. May the Almighty God remember you all in all areas of your
expectation and give peace all round.
Our focus this week in the Liturgy is on the topic: “The Benefits of
His Victory”
As believers in Christ, we know that Jesus Christ died on the cross for
people‘s sins. But many do not know that the forgiveness of our sins is
not the end of the story. The benefits of the cross are much more: Not
only has Jesus freed believers from all condemnation, but we have a
whole new identity, according to John 1:12 and 2 Corinthians 5:17. He
has given us purpose, power, and hope to live here on Earth now!
5.
Eternal life is not just about Heaven; it starts as soon as you accept
Christ. Jesus‘ purpose was to preach and to heal—and now, so is
yours. The source of His power to do these things was the Holy Spirit,
and you have been given the same Holy Spirit that lived in Jesus.
By his death on the cross Jesus gained victory over the devil. This
victory is for the benefit of man. Here‘s a summary of the core things
Christ accomplished in his death.
The self-substitution of Christ for man‘s sin is the heart of the Cross.
Because of His death at Calvary, Christ allows believers to enjoy the
eternal benefits of these central truths:
1. Expiation
Expiation means the removal of our sin and guilt. Christ‘s death
removes our sin and guilt. The guilt of our sin was taken away from us
and placed on Christ, who discharged it by his death.
Thus, in John 1:29, John the Baptist calls Jesus ―the Lamb of God who
takes away the sin of the world.‖ Jesus takes away, that is, expiates,
our sins. Likewise, Isaiah 53:6 says, ―The Lord has caused the iniquity
of us all to fall on him,‖ and Hebrews 9:26 says ―He has been
manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.‖
2. Propitiation
Whereas expiation refers to the removal of our sins, propitiation refers
to the removal of God‘s wrath.
By dying in our place for our sins, Christ removed the wrath of God
that we justly deserved. In fact, it goes even further: a propitiation is
not simply a sacrifice that removes wrath, but a sacrifice that removes
wrath and turns it into favor. The wrath of God against sin was fully
vented on His own Son at the cross. Christians never need to fear
angering God. Our sin is forgiven, and even God‘s chastisement for
sinful behavior is motivated by compassion.
3. Reconciliation
Whereas expiation refers to the removal of our sins, and propitiation
refers to the removal of God‘s wrath, reconciliation refers to the
removal of our alienation from God.
Because of our sins, we were alienated - separated - from God.
Christ‘s death removed this alienation and thus reconciled us to God.
We see this in Romans 5:10-11: ―For if while we were enemies, we
were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more,
having been reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.‖
Once enemies, God and man, are now friends. The victory of the
Cross made a permanent change possible between formerly alienated
man and God. The right Man is now on our side, and we are on His.
4. Redemption
Our sins had put us in captivity from which we need to be delivered.
The price that is paid to deliver someone from captivity is called a
―ransom.‖ To say that Christ‘s death accomplished redemption for us
means that it accomplished deliverance from our captivity through the
payment of a price.
There are three things we had to be released from: the curse of the
law, the guilt of sin, and the power of sin. Christ redeemed us from
each of these.


Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law: ―Christ
redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse
for us‖ (Galatians 3:13-14).
Christ redeemed us from the guilt of our sin. We are ―justified
as a gift by his grace, through the redemption which is in
Christ Jesus‖ (Romans 3:24).

Christ redeemed us from the power of sin: ―knowing that you
were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold
from your futile way of life inherited from your fathers, but
with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless,
the blood of Christ‖ (1 Peter 1:18-19).
Christ‘s death purchased us out of the slavery of sin. His shed blood
paid the penalty of death and ransomed us from sin and evil. We have
been delivered from the kingdom of Satan and placed into the
kingdom of God‘s Son.
5. Justification
The word ―justified‖, in the sense of sinful human beings being
justified by God, is used about 34 times in the New Testament. It was
used by Jesus in the Parable of the Publican and the Tax Collector.
The tax collector, who admitted his sinfulness and cast himself on the
mercy of God, not the self-righteous Pharisee, ―went home justified
before God‖ (Luke 18:9-14). Paul obviously prefers this word to the
idea of forgiveness, as it includes forgiveness but means much more.
It is a word that comes from the law courts, Its use of the word was
also taken from the throne room as it goes beyond any conception of
human justice.
George Carey, in his book on the cross, The Gate of Glory,[32a] says:
By God‘s grace we no longer are guilty before God. Christ‘s death
secured our verdict, releasing us from the sentence of death. He
declares us righteous and credits His righteousness to our account.
6. Defeat of the Powers of Darkness
Christ‘s death was a defeat of the power of Satan. ―He disarmed the
rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over
them in him‖ (Colossians 3:15). Satan‘s only weapon that can
ultimately hurt people is unforgiven sin. Christ took this weapon away
from him for all who would believe, defeating him and all the powers
of darkness in his death by, as the verse right before this says, ―having
forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that
stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to
the cross‖ (Colossians 2:13-14).
In summary, the Bible tells us to ―forget not all His benefits‖ (Psalm
103:2). Here are just a few of the many benefits of the cross for your
life as a follower of Christ. May you rejoiced and be encouraged as
you consider each one:

I am reconciled to God (2 Corinthians 5:18)

I am redeemed and forgiven (Ephesians 1:7-8)

I am a child of God (1 John 3:1-2)









I am a saint (Ephesians 1:1; Philippians 1:1)
I am Christ‘s friend (John 15:15)
I am a citizen of Heaven (Philippians 3:20)
I have eternal life (John 5:24; 1 John 5:11-13)
I have received the Spirit of God (1 Corinthians 2:12)
I have been made alive with Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17)
I am God‘s workmanship (Ephesians 2:10)
I am a temple of God (1 Corinthians 3:16; 6:19)
I am blessed with EVERY spiritual blessing (Ephesians
1:3)
―Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have
peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.‖ – Romans 5:1.
