Dear Parishioners, Greetings from Tanzania. Thank you so much for your most generous contribution to our projects. I am always so proud to tell the people here about you and the concern that you have for the orphans and children who are HIV+. When this happens at a meeting I take out a map and show people exactly where you live. I don’t know that this gives them a true understanding of how far you are reaching across continents to help them, but it does impress them and as always they tell me to greet you and thank you. We have been able to help some of the children who needed surgery. Sadiki, four years old, came in from a village about 25 miles from here. (His grandmother is a neighbor of one of our good friends (Stella) and it was Stella who brought the father and son to us.) We took Sadiki to the regional hospital in town and he was diagnosed with melanoma of the elbow and referred to the Zonal Hospital in Mwanza, 150 miles from here. Fortunately, Liz, the lay missioner I live with, has friends in the right places and she called the surgeon there and he told her to send the child with a letter addressed to him. Sadiki and his father went down on a Wednesday June 27, 2010 and he was operated on Friday and discharged on Sunday. The surgeon feels that the tumor is not cancerous, but we still await the pathology report. Sadiki has a 3 ½ inch scar on his elbow, but full range of motion. We should get the report this week. When the father got back to Musoma he received word that his youngest child (nine months old) had died. Both parents are HIV+, as is Sadiki, so most are saying the child died of AIDS. Another child we were able to help is a one year old girl who was jabbed in the eye with something. The mother does not know what really happened as she left the child with other children while she went to the fields to plant. The doctors could do nothing to save the eye so we helped pay for the operation to remove it. It was a sad day for me, but in the long run it was the best thing for the child. I am telling you these stories because it is through your help that we are able to facilitate some things which would not be affordable for some parents. There are times when I sit in awe of people here – there is so much hardship and tragedy in their lives, but they continue live in faith, thank God for the blessings they receive and move with whatever comes into their lives. Know that I keep each one of you very close in my heart. Thank you for being there, caring and loving and giving me the courage to take another step into the future with the children. My love and prayers, Sr. Marion 461-OLPH Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Monday, June 28 8:00 AM - Lillian Grant 9:00 AM - Lantelme & Yutuc Families Tuesday, June 29 8:00 AM - Vincent & Anna Ranisi 9:00 AM - Joseph Gomez Wednesday, June 30 8:00 AM - Kathryn Dolan 9:00 AM - Simon Alberto Velez Thursday, July 1 8:00 AM - Roger Hall 9:00 AM - Thomas & Rose Rinaldi Friday, July 2 8:00 AM – Rose & Peter Loffredo 9:00 AM – Ernani & Ambrosina Gori Saturday, July 3 8:00 AM - Lackner & Marakowitz Families 9:00 AM - Philip Gregware, Jr 2010-2011 Religious Education Program Please note we are in the process of registration for new students in grades k-8.
