HSE Highlights - Hamilton Southeastern Schools

HSE Highlights
Thank you for supporting the great achievements of our Hamilton Southeastern students, parents,
faculty and staff. Here are just a few of the great highlights taking place in our schools:
12th Annual Carrie Colglazier Scholarship Workday Coming Up March 28th
In the summer of 2003, Carrie Colglazier a 2002 Hamilton Southeastern graduate was tragically
killed by a drunk driver. Carrie was a two
sport, All-State athlete in soccer and track
and was very involved in the FFA program at
HSE. Carrie was extremely passionate about
her family, friends, teammates and her
teachers and coaches. Her life continues to
serve as an inspiration for the entire
community through the 12th annual Carrie
Colglazier Scholarship Workday coming up at
the end of this month.
If you have spring cleaning, mulch, paint or lawn projects, the Carrie Colglazier Scholarship
Workday is for you! Hire a student to help and in turn, help fund scholarships. More
information: www.carriecolglazier.org.
FCI’s Luke Andritsch is the HSE Snapshots of Success for March 9th
Our Snapshots of Success honoree for March 9, 2015 is Luke Andritsch, a student at Fall Creek
Intermediate School. His principal is Randy Schoeff, who describes Luke as a “fine young man.” We could
not agree more.

HSE Highlights
Luke and his family were featured on WTHR Channel 13 for their volunteer work at Riley Children’s
Hospital. Luke regularly visits the Indy campus to distribute
“Rhythm Pax” to every child who has recently been
diagnosed with cancer, about 25 each month. During his
visits, he and his family also lead a drumming circle with
the patients.
Luke’s dedication as a volunteer is noteworthy, but his
story becomes even more remarkable when you
understand that he was diagnosed with leukemia at the
age of three. He is now cancer free. Drumming was often a
solace and outlet for him. Today, he shares his strategy
and story with other children, who find themselves in a similar situation.
Luke and the Andritsch family have demonstrated what it means to pay it forward. Thank you for being
such a light and inspiration to our community.

Fishers and HSE High School Students
Excel on National German Language Exam
This past February, students at Fishers and Hamilton
Southeastern High Schools who are enrolled in a
German honors class participated in the National
German Exam. All World Language students enrolled in
honors level language classes take this annual exam
sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of
German, French or Spanish. The data received enables
teachers to see how students are doing with respect to
the different parts of the exam, such as listening,
grammar, and reading skills. It is also an indicator of
how a student might do on the AP test after 5 years of
language study.
Fishers High School National German Exam Students
Students received Gold, Silver or Bronze level certificates from the American Association of Teachers of
German for scoring so well nationally. Gold is at or above the 90th percentile, Silver is between 80th -89th
percentile, and Bronze is between the 70th-79th percentile.
Congratulations to all the test takers! A full listing of results is available at www.hse.k12.in.us .

starting their ISTEP testing.
HSE High School Alum Debuts IMAX Film at Indiana State History Museum
Brenden Patrick Hill, Hamilton Southeastern High School, Class of 2000, studied theater at Indiana
University Bloomington. Brenden, now of Los Angeles, has produced a full-length independent movie,
WALTER, which debuted March 8th, 13th and 14th at the Indiana State Museum’s IMAX theater.
The film is written by Paul Shoulberg of Bloomington. Actor Andrew West, originally from Merrillville,
plays "Walter." Hill, Shoulberg, and West will have a Q&A session after the March 8th showing.
Indiana University Cinema also hosted a screening in Bloomington, IN, where the three Hoosiers
discussed their film. Although most of the filming was done in Los Angeles, Brenden did not forget his
Hoosier roots and included scenes from the Hamilton County IMAX and Indianapolis. WALTER is
available as video on demand.
