A
fundamental
challenge for
most artists, is how
to make art and in
turn make that art
profitable. A fundamental challenge for
art collectors is how to
find fresh new work
and find it at fair prices. These simple and
age old problems are
partly why there are so
many art associations and
collectives throughout the
world–-pooling resources,
connections and talent for
the betterment of the
whole. The Sebastopol Center for the Arts (SCA), provides many networks of
support for the multitudes
of “creatives” and consumers of the “creative” in our
community.

Regionally significant,
the Sebastopol Center
for the Arts (SCA) is one
of the most vibrant arts
organizations in Sonoma County, and the
largest center of its
kind north of San
Francisco.
SCA provides
many reasons for
residents and visitors alike to
spend time in and tour beautiful Sonoma
County.
Four signature events run by SCA focus this yearlong “art tourism” effect: a documentary film
festival(in March), two open studio tours (in June and
October) and OutWatch-LGBTQI film festival (in November.) All four of these events bring people who
may have never been to our county, and also find other
activities while here.
SCA continues to work for its deeply talented membership through the management of these programs.
These programs bring culture and money to our County, and luckily for all those involved, brings the fundamental challenge of connecting artist and art buyers.
Art Tourism, it’s not just good art, it’s good business.
To join the SCA visit sebarts.org. To join in the talented pool of the events above click through the logos

“Being a docent at the Center has made me feel like a real part of the community from the first day I volunteered. It is so
great to see all of the wonderful talented artists’ work in one gallery. I love the variety of exhibits and the training we get as
docents to be able to help visitors. An added bonus is the camaraderie with the other docents. It’s a great group that always

PERFORMING ARTS
May 15: MAME: The Musical, A Concert Version
“Open A New Window, Open A
New Door, Travel A New Highway
That’s Never Been Tried Before’ is the battle
cry and life lesson that Mame Dennis imparts to
her nephew, Patrick, in “MAME”, the musical!
‘Auntie Mame’, made famous on film by Rosalind Russell’s heartfelt and humorous portrayal, became a legendary Broadway ‘broad’
when Angela Lansbury made the role her
own in the original cast of ‘Mame’.
On May 15, join the SCA Performing Arts
Company as it presents MAME: A Concert Version* for one night only at the
Sebastopol Center for the Arts.
Listen to some of the best voices in
the County belt out Jerry Herman’s entertaining lyrics and
hummable tunes as you tap
your feet and hum along to
such favorites as ‘We Need A
Little Christmas,’ ‘Mame,’
‘My Best Girl’ and ‘Bosom
Buddies’.

July 18: Marimba Concert
with Ambuya!
Enjoy the spirited
music of Zimbabwe.
These compelling African
melodies will inspire you to
move, dance and celebrate!
Complex polyrhythms are played
on wooden marimbas and accompanied by a traditional gourd shaker.
Ambuya means “grandmother or wise,
elder woman.” For us, Ambuya refers to the
wisdom and joy we feel when we play marimba music together. Our ensemble — Lori
Ingram, Lani Young, Linda Rake, Stacey Kerr,
Barbara Wolcott, Cynthia McReynolds and Noori
Dove — is fortunate to be guided by Michael Breez, cofounder of the Rufaro School of Marimba and Musasa
Marimba Ensemble, and to be joined tonight by ethnomusicologist and vocalist, Bhavani Tucker. Join us for
an evening of marimba magic!

2014 brought in yet another network to
our ever-growing pool of talent and resources. Last year’s inaugural year of the Sonoma
County Art Trails program featured over
160 talented artists from the furthest reaches of Sonoma County.
This combined with the very well established Art At The Source. What has become
clear is that SCA has clearly moved to bring
art and art tourism to the forefront of the
multi billion dollar tourist industry in our
County.
It might seem passé to many when you see
