VCAL Work Related Skills poster competition Darrius Tanuvasa is the Inurgarul winner of the VCAL Work Related Skills poster competition for this term. The event was judged by Mrs Ifandis and Alex Kourkouridis who are the Westall Secondary College OH&S Representatives. The students were asked to pick an OH&S issue and create a poster using images relating to the issue. Darrius created a poster highlighting the problems with lifting and the injuries relating to manual labour. Both judges felt that even though all the posters showed a creative flair, the winning entry was simple and caught their eye. Alex said that things like burns were also important, lifting and back injuries were far more common in workplaces. Congratulations to Darrius who won some chocolate for his efforts.!! The posters are on display in the library until the second week in Term 2. Ms Stenning - WRS Teacher ALWAYS ATTEND TO HELP IF YOU CAN’T LIFT AN HEAVY OBJECT Premier’s Active April challenge Westall Secondary College is participating for the very first time in the Premier's Active April challenge. This initiative, now in its third year in Victoria, encourages Victorians to participate in at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day during April. Westall is embracing this challenge because establishing the importance of physical activity during childhood can help ensure lifelong participation with resulting health, social, economic and environmental benefits for individuals and communities. By participating in regular physical activity during childhood and throughout your life you will develop a healthier heart and lungs, build stronger bones and muscles, improve your motor skills, improve self-esteem, reduce stress and anxiety, improve school performance (which should be every student's ambition) and improve concentration. Westall students in Years 7—10 have been signed up in their Health classes and will do at least 60 minutes of exercise per day. They will register their information on the Active April website until 30-4-15 and by sticking to a routine will have a chance to win some great prizes. Good luck to everyone.
