The College has aspirational values for staff and students. These values are guiding beacons, to help us define behaviours that enable individuals and groups to organise and work together safely and productively. For students they are: ‘respect for self, others and the environment’ and ‘be the best you can be’. For staff, we adopt the same values and add ‘honour and celebrate diversity’ and ‘work together’. At the centre of the staff values is ‘ensuring students are the focus’. A long list of rules and consequences does not necessarily educate people to understand why and how they can be better. Part of the process is to build beliefs that enhance problem-solving and analysis, in the pursuit of higher order thinking and higher order values. Put simply, we do need to care about ourselves and others and care about the planet. Put simply, we need to empower people to understand and build on ways we can do this better. We are clear that we do not tolerate bullying, illicit drug use, violence and abuse in all its forms. In those cases consequences are consistently strong. However, in all cases it is both ignorant and arrogant not to consider context when metering out consequences so that they may have maximal impact in changing behaviours. Kind Regards Ian Hall School Council has an important governance role to play in setting the long term future of the College and maintaining oversight of the operation of the College. This includes: Principal Selection Developing the College’s Strategic Plan Approving the annual budget and monitoring budgetary performance Developing/reviewing College policies Fundraising and excursions Generally promoting the College within the community School Council is made up of a mix of people including the Principal, DET staff, parents and community representatives. Councillors come from a variety of backgrounds and bring a range of skills and interests to School Council, all council members have a shared vision of the success of the College and the wellbeing and educational outcomes for our students. School Council meets eight times per year – twice each school term, after business hours – so the time commitment is manageable in our busy lives. I strongly encourage any parent or community member who has an interest to take part in the College’s School Council to contact the College. Your interest will be very welcome.
