Lector Schedule
March 8, 2015 Dear Fellow Lectors: This new schedule begins with Palm Sunday and takes us through June. We need to remember that as we enter this season of great hope, spring weather is hopefully here soon. If you are scheduled for Holy Week, see the instruction sheet which has been sent to you separately. Palm Sunday and Good Friday readers will receive the Passion reading via email. All of the other readings for Palm Sunday and the Triduum liturgies are in the workbook. Please start your preparation well in advance. If you are unable to proclaim as scheduled, contact us rather than trying to find your own sub. Please note that the Easter Sunday Mass schedule is different from the regular Sunday schedule. Easter Masses are at 6 AM, 8 AM, 10 AM and 12 PM. We will put a “reserved” sign on the regular lector pew, which is the first pew with a kneeler on the ambo side. Sometimes in past years, the “reserved” sign has disappeared, so plan to arrive early for these Easter Masses. The Ascension of the Lord is celebrated on the 7th Sunday of Easter, May 16/17. If you are scheduled on this date, prepare the readings for the Ascension. There are just a few reminders about your duties as lector. Remember to get to mass 15 or 20 minutes early so you can check not only the lectionary but the prayers of the faithful and the announcements. If there is no deacon, we read the prayers of the faithful from the ambo. Please read the announcements as written. The parish office approves these prior to mass. If you are not doing your scheduled assignment, please let Mike know so he can send out a reminder. You are doing a great job adjusting to the two lector system. Since we have lost a number of lectors, we are scheduling you much more frequently than in the past. In some instances, you are assigned two or three weeks in a row. Please read the schedule carefully and mark your calendar. Remember to prepare both readings in case the second lector does not show up. We are trying to keep you at your requested Masses but we may be asking you to cover other Masses in the future. We are asking your help to help recruit some new lectors. Encourage a friend, a spouse, or a son or daughter to become a lector. We all know how difficult it is to stand in front of the Lector Letter Sunday, March 8, 2015 Page 2 of 2 congregation and proclaim but remind them that the Lord is speaking through them. He will be the help they need to overcome any doubt they may have. Let us know who you have recruited and we will contact them. Thank you for your service to the people of St. Theresa. May your Lenten journey be a prayerful preparation for the great feast of Easter. Prayer is the strength of the Christian and of every believing person. In the weakness and fragility of our life, we can turn to God with the confidence of children and enter into communion with Him. In the face of so many wounds that hurt us and that could harden the heart, we are called to dive into the sea of prayer, which is the sea of God’s boundless love, to enjoy its tenderness.
