Payment plans are available by contacting the HOA office Online Payments at: www.spectrumam.com Encino Park is a wonderful, inviting community in which to live. Among the many reasons for this are the residents, amenities, location, schools and active Encino Park Homeowners Association board, manager and committees. We are privileged to have many community-minded folks who contribute their time and efforts to help make and preserve the quality of life that we enjoy. One group that helps with our enjoyment of Encino Park is the CITIZENS ON PATROL committee. This group has been active since 1994, and its members provide help the San Antonio Police Department to maintain community safety and security by assisting as additional eyes and ears. Observations can be made at any time of the day while driving, biking or walking, and participants can be anyone over the age of 17. Volunteers can be just about any and all adults including stay-at-home parents, retirees and active employees. Members do not respond to crime calls nor do they perform any intrusive activities. They do, however, report situations or sightings as warranted and when observed. For example, a partial or full license plate number of a suspicious vehicle will be reported to the police who may be able to subsequently use the information as part of an overall investigation or project. They also watch for persons, activities or any other things out of the ordinary that could potentially be related to crimes or disturbances. CITIZENS ON PATROL is always ready to welcome new members who would like to help keep an eye on things in our delightful subdivision and who want to assist their neighbors and themselves (continued on pg.2) (continued from page 1) while doing so. Training is free to the public and is conducted by Officer Dave McDonald with the San Antonio Police Department. It is a 4-hour program during which students learn how to observe and what to look for. After course completion, students schedule a ride-along activity during a shift with a police officer. A SPECIAL 4-HOUR TRAINING CLASS IS BEING HELD RIGHT HERE IN ENCINO PARK ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 6TH, 2015, IN THE COMMUNITY CENTER AT 6:00 PM! Enrollment forms will be filled out at the beginning of the class and light refreshments will be provided. The weather couldn’t have been worse: it was extremely cold, very overcast and rainy. However, all the key committees and clubs had representatives present and most had displays of their activities and members. Most of the Board was present as well as our Office Manager. We had nice hot coffee and cookies and door prizes from local vendors. The only thing we didn’t have much of were homeowners. While we were hoping to have a better turnout since the event was so close to all our homes, we know that folks are busy and the weather did not welcome one outside. We do hope more homeowners turn out for our next one which is planned for later in the year, since this is a prime opportunity to meet the Board members informally and see how our community is organized and what committees and clubs exist. Just like our monthly open Board Meetings, it’s a way to learn how and where your assessment dollars are spent. It’s an opportunity to provide feedback, make suggestions or raise concerns. It’s a time when you can volunteer to join a committee and become a part of the decision making process rather than a very few people making all the decisions. And, there are groups like Citizens on Patrol dedicated to making our neighborhood safer and more secure that need more volunteers so that we increase our security even more. It’s also a good way to meet more of our neighbors. And, the refreshments were a big hit as were the door prizes. So, as soon as we pick our next Open House date, we’ll put it in the Newsletter so you can mark your calendars. Between now and then, you are always welcome to attend our monthly open Board Meeting the next one scheduled for April 21, 6:30 p.m. $ - Not valid with any other offer or coupon. We will meet there on Tuesday the 28th at 11:30. Call Janet at 481-9956 by Sunday the 26th if you’d like to go. In February, six of us enjoyed dining at Zio’s Italian Kitchen. The food, as always, was wonderful and the service for our group was great. We had a very nice time there. Thank you to Marti Willis for being the hostess for that outing. We need your donations of used clothing and household goods. Arms of Hope appreciates your donation and uses donations directly when possible. Any donations that cannot be used directly by Arms of Hope will be sold at market price to thrift stores. The proceeds from the sale of your generous donations generate funding for the many services Arms of Hope provides. Call 888.733.7380 or 210.733.8888 or go online at RecycleForChildren.org and we will come to your home to pick up donations, or drop off your donations at Texas Thrift Stores. Visit ArmsofHope.org for more information. We are looking for part time employees to man our donation site near Timberwood Park. This job consists of accepting donations of used clothing and household goods from donors. This is an ideal position for retired persons, college students, or others looking for additional income. Please contact Tenille Eubanks at [email protected] for more information. Hope to see you at the Encino Park Fiesta Festival! METRO PAINTING & HOME IMPROVEMENTS Two hats were hanging on a hat rack. One hat said to the other, “You stay here, I’ll go on a head to the Over 50 Club gathering.” Get it? Ha, ha!! March was a busy month for us. We welcomed three new guests at our March 3rd get together: Esther, Estella and Marti. We hope to see them again soon. On March 17th, we held our first Bunco party. It was a great success. Lots of fun had by all with prizes awarded to the winners. On the 18th, we took our annual tour of Independence Hill and had a great home cooked meal in their dining room. For the April 7th get together, I thought we’d start something new: come with the answer to this Brain Teaser and receive a prize: A woman went into town carrying an object in her right hand. Before she reached her destination, a man came up to her and asked, “Can I take that?” She said, “Please do,” even though the man was a total stranger. What did the woman have in her right hand? If you know the answer, a prize awaits you at the meeting. For the April 21st gathering, we’ll be eating out. We haven’t yet decided where we will eat, but since it is Fiesta, that will be our theme. So come dressed in your finest Fiesta attire and/or head wear and dine with us. You can call Dyan at 481-7890 to find out where we are going or come to our April 7th meeting where we will decide. Our first May meeting is May 5th, so we will celebrate Cinco de Mayo in our own special way. So, mark your calendar with these dates! And remember, we meet every first and third Tuesday at 11:30 in the Community Center. See you there.
