Clients (Target Groups) Target students will be those wishing to enter the industry with no previous experience such as recent school leavers or those who have already gained vocational experience but without having gained a formal qualification. If successful in attaining the qualification students will be looking to undertake typical job roles such as: • Accommodation support worker • Field officer • • • • • • • Assistant in nursing * Care assistant Client assistant Community access coordinator Community care worker Community house worker Community support worker • • • • • • • Home care assistant In-home respite care worker Nursing assistant * Personal care assistant Personal care giver Personal care worker Residential aide Entry As this is an entry level qualification there are no specific entry requirements for applicants. Requirements Client(s) (Learning Needs) Language, Literacy & Numeracy requirements Individual learner needs will be identified during the application process. Prospective students will be required to apply to enrol and provide details of their current level of education, any previous experience in the industry or previous education that may make them eligible for recognition of current competence or prior learning respectively. A pre-enrolment interview will then be carried out including a needs assessment of factors such as length of time since last formal study, language and/or literacy issues, social and personal constraints. Where potential language, literacy or numeracy issues are identified through the application to enrol process a LL&N assessment will be conducted to help identify support requirements. This strategy has been developed in consultation with industry including: • Consultation with industry Recognition of Prior Learning and National Recognition of Qualifications • • Direct liaison with employers over elective unit selection to determine which would be most relevant to the work roles that successful students could undertake; Discussion with specific industry bodies Review of draft Training and Assessment Strategies and samples of associated resources to validate them and to identify any changes required from an industry perspective. The recognition of prior learning procedure will be made known to students pre- enrolment. If a student can demonstrate competency and provide sufficient, current, valid and authentic evidence of work experience, life skills, study or via other evidence, then the learner will be deemed competent in that unit of competency. If a candidate has already been deemed competent by a Registered Training Organisation, in a unit through previous study, a credit transfer will be awarded for that unit. Location • Training Methods and Approaches • • Qualification Structure V1 All face to face training will be delivered in the classroom, either at 3Bridges premises or similar, suitably equipped, venues. Work placements will be arranged by students with suitable employer organizations, under formal agreements with 3Bridges. Where more than one host organisation is required to fulfil the workplace component 3Bridges will assist students in finding an appropriate employer. One day practical component delivered off site at a venue with the required equipment. Students are given the resource book for each week prior to attendance so that can prepare by reading the material in advance. All assessments and must be submitted for assessment with a cover sheet provided separately. Available resources will include PowerPoint, subject related texts, workplace related content and documentation, legislation and standards. The work placement component will be organised by the student with a suitable employer with assistance from 3Bridges. If necessary, 3Bridges may assist students find additional host employers so they can fulfil the requirements of the workplace component. 3Bridges will use a combination of assessment methods and approaches which will involve collecting a range of evidence for ensuring consistency and validity of competency. Assessment Approach and Methods Assessment will be conducted using approaches which allow for competency in all units to be demonstrated over a period of time and which satisfy the critical aspects for assessment and evidence requirements. The assessment tasks have been mapped to the requirements of each unit as part of validation. For the face to face training and assessment component 3Bridges uses classrooms of a size commensurate with class size, suitably equipped with audio visual equipment. These will either be at 3Bridges’s premises or at a similarly equipped hired venue. The Work Placement component utilizes the facilities and equipment of employer organizations under formal agreements with 3Bridges. 3Bridges ensures that these organizations have the required resources and equipment to allow students to learn and be assessed against the relevant elements and performance criteria of the units of competency. Students will be provided with Learner Resource Books and associated assessment tasks. Supplementary resources will include • • PowerPoint and subject related texts. Trainer support materials including facilitator guides The context of and specific resources for assessment for units within this qualification may require: • • • • access to an actual workplace or simulated environment access to typical equipment and resources used in the workplace access to clients and their carers and families workplace documentation To meet these requirements the following resources will be utilised: • • • • Simulated workplace in the classroom with use of associated resources Access to relevant legislation via internet Examples of workplace documentation such as policies, procedures and forms Work placement with a suitable organisation For the Work Placement component students will be provided with a Work Placement Journal to record activities carried out under the supervision of a workplace supervisor, linked to the units of competency.
