AspartoftheIslamiccurriculum,aQur’anRecitationCompetitionwasheldatschool,with
thehelpofoneoftheparents,forallgrades.TheSurahsthathadtobememorizedbyeach
gradeweredistributedtothestudentsacoupleofweekspriortothecompetitiontogive
themenoughtimetomemorize.Ajudgecamefortheboys’sectionfromtheMinistryof
Endowmentsandtwojudgescametothegirls’sectionfromDubaiWomen’sAssociation
onthedayofthecompetition.Theprizestothewinnerswereawardedduringaprize
distributionceremony.Allthecontestants,eventheoneswhodidnotwin,received
prizes.

The United Nations’ (UN) International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is
observed with a series of events and activities worldwide on March 21 each year. The day aims
to remind people of racial discrimination’s negative consequences. It also encourages people to
remember their obligation and determination to combat racial discrimination.
Variousactivitiesandeventsarearrangedinmanycountriesworldwideonthisday.

Society,onThursday16thApril2015.NAIShasstudentsfrom35nationalities!Everyone
pledgednottodiscriminateagainstanyindividual.

NAISobservedtheAnti‐BullyingMonth.PeopleProhavesupportedasisterNGO,LIVE
JAM,toconducttheBreakFreeTour(www.breakfreetour.org)inschoolsincitiesacross
theworld,forhighschoolstudents.Studentsthesedaysarestormedandconfrontedwith
strugglesofvarioussortsincludingaddictions,peerpressure,highpressuretoperform,
extremecompetitiveenvironments,strugglesofbrokenhomebackgrounds,andthe
struggletobebraveand‘cool’beforefriendsandparents.ThroughtheBreakFreeTour,
weaddressissuesandproblemsthatteensfaceinanon‐threateningmannerandthrough
afewpositivesongsandatalk.
Theprogramconsistedofmusicfollowedbyashortmotivationaltalk(creative
interaction)andthethemefocusedon“Identity‐Arealizationofone’suniquenessand
potential.”

Road Safety Week (19-22 April, 2015)
19th–22thAprilNAISobservedRoadSafetyWeek.
ThestudentsfromthePrimary,GirlsandBoyssectionsrespectivelyshowcasedthree
differentassembliesonthetopicRoadSafetyintheformofaskit.Theyshowedvarious
RoadSafetysignsandcreatedanawarenesstofollowthesame.Someofthescenarios
highlightedwere‐avoidspeeddriving,donotusemobilephoneswhiledriving,followthe
traf icsignals,followzebracrossingandmanymore.
ThestudentsnotonlyperformedtheskitonRoadsafetybutalsogaveamessagetoevery‐
one.Theyeducatedeveryonetofollowthe3magicalwordswhenevercrossingtheroads.

on PTA on Saturday,
April 25th, 2015, from
8am until 1pm. Free
BMI (Body Mass
Index, i.e. Height &
Weight) and BP (Blood
Pressure) check up by
our School Nurse, was
conducted, assisted by
the Emirates Medical
Student Society. A Free
Glucose Test for the
first 25 parents also
was also done. The day
was a hit amongst the
parent community!
EarthDaywascelebratedthroughouttheschool.Specialassemblieswereconductedbyall
thesectionsoftheschool.Aspecialsessionwasconductedtoconservewater.
WATER BANK – Save Water
PeopleProhaspartneredwithNahtamSocialResponsibility,asocialorganizationworking
intheareasofEducation,EnvironmentandHumanity.
LastmonththeylaunchedBANKALMIYAH–TheWaterBankcampaigninthe
InternationalWaterSummittoinculcatewatersavinghabitsamongthepeopleandnow
theyarebringingthiscampaignindifferentschoolsacrossUAEtoencouragestudentsto
saveourwaterintheirdaytodaylife.WeatNAIShaveundertakenthisSocial
ResponsibilityCampaign.

andcollegesacross40countries.StudentsofGrade11and12visitedtheexhibition

 WETEXTrip: TheNAISstudentsfromtheDepartmentofEnvironmentalStudies
visitedtheWETEXExhibitionon22ndofApril2015.Itisaninternational event and is
a great platform to display the latest Water, Energy and Environment technologies.
 ArepresentativefromCastleHillUniversitiesgaveaCareerTalktoGRS9–12on
26thApril2015.

 MUN:TheUniversal American School is pleased to host this exciting MUN conference,
which will completely follow the UN protocol and provide your child with the opportunity
to develop their leadership skills through discussion and negotiation. NAIS has enrolled for
the same. The conference will take place 17th & 18th May 2015.
