Haydn’s Symphony no101, ‘The Clock‘ shows this genial composer at the very height of his powers. For Peter’s final concert with OOTS this season he has chosen a 20th century masterpiece, Shostakovich’s second concerto. Composed in 1957 for his son’s 19th birthday, it is an uncharacteristically cheerful piece, with a tender and subdued slow movement. April ushers in spring and summer with an all-American programme which includes some less well-known gems alongside justifiably popular stalwarts of the classical repertoire - Barber’s sublime Adagio and Copland’s bucolic Appalachian Spring. Fauré’s Requiem is a perfect foil to Dobrinka Tabakova’s glittering work for chamber choir and orchestra Centuries of Meditations. We are delighted to welcome back Tamsin Waley-Cohen as soloist in another work from Dobrinka, High Line, composed as a companion to The Lark Ascending.
