(April 16, 2015) – This May, locals and race attendees will have the opportunity to attend five family-friendly events presented by the 600 Festival™ Association: Movies on the Campus (May 8 in Kannapolis); Haulers on Union (May 14 in Concord); Valvoline Little 600 (May 19 in Mooresville); Circle K and Kangaroo Speed Street presented by Coca-Cola (May 21-23 in Charlotte); and the inaugural PNC Speed Street 5K (May 23). “The 600 Festival Association is a nonprofit that has been commemorating the May races at Charlotte Motor Speedway with family-oriented events for more than 30 years,” said Jay Howard, 600 Festival™ Association president. “It continues to make a significant impact on the community by bringing race fans to the city early, promoting a positive image of Charlotte and surrounding cities, and providing entertainment to local residents.” Movies on the Campus, May 8 The second annual “Movies on the Campus” in conjunction with Jiggy with the Piggy will kick off at 8:30 p.m. in downtown Kannapolis, North Carolina. Disney’s “Cars” will be playing on an oversized screen as families join The 600 Festival™ Association for a free event on the lawn. Haulers on Union, May 14 “Haulers on Union” will take place at 5:45 p.m. as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series haulers parade down Union Street en route to Charlotte Motor Speedway. In addition to the parade, fans can meet their favorite hauler drivers, get free t-shirts and enjoy music, food trucks and more at the event staging area at Ride Now Powersports (254 Concord Parkway South) from 1-4 p.m. Attendees can then make their way to Union Street for a Vietnam Veterans 50th Anniversary Commemorative Program at 5 p.m. featuring hometown hero, vet and POW Colonel J. Quincy Collins Jr. As the last truck exits downtown, fans will be serenaded with the sounds of Route 66. Valvoline Little 600, May 19 The second annual “Little 600” welcomes Valvoline as the event’s title sponsor. This year’s race will once again feature a full field of NASCAR drivers competing in a fleet of GoPro Motorplex’s rental karts. Prior to the main event, fans can watch the inaugural “Little 600 NASCAR Spotters’ Race” and “Future Stars” races. The gates will open at 3 p.m. for this free rain-or-shine event. Circle K and Kangaroo Speed Street presented by Coca-Cola, May 21-23 The 21st annual Circle K and Kangaroo Speed Street presented by Coca-Cola transforms the streets of uptown Charlotte with live musical entertainment, appearances by NASCAR drivers and celebrities, and dynamic exhibits from sponsors like Circle K Stores Inc, Kangaroo Express, Coca-Cola and more.
