At a recent RES Mass, Fr. Stevens challenged the students to finish the school year strong. Take advantage of the last month of school and learn as much as you can and solidify your friendships. Do all this in the spirit of the Easter season both at school and at home. The month of May is a busy month with many activities at all grade levels. Prior to May 19th, the last day of school, there will be concerts, athletic events, Fun Day at RPS, graduation and other events. I encourage you to check the May calendar and support as many activities as possible. The students take pride in showcasing their talents. With this newsletter, my time as interim president is coming to an end. My time with the ACSS has been nothing short of remarkable. I am in awe each and every week of what I see as 580 students develop in mind, body and soul. I am humbled by the parental support. Families are so generous with their time, talents and treasures and the generosity of the parishioners at St. Mary’s and Sacred Heart is greatly appreciated. To the faculty and staff who give so much, words cannot adequately express my appreciation and thanks. The ACSS is strong and vibrant and with your continued support we will only grow stronger in our mission. I wish each of you all the best and know you will be in my prayers. GO CAVALIERS! PARISH INVOLVEMENT PROGRAM Throughout this year it has been stated that the importance of parish support is critical to the success of the Aberdeen Catholic School System. It was the parishes who started Catholic education in Aberdeen over 100 years ago and they continue with their support to the ACSS in many different ways. One way they show their support is through a financial commitment. They provide $2,255.00 for each K-12 student of the approximate $6,500.00 to educate a student. In past discussions with the parishes, school board, and others, the topic of mutual support and continued viability of the schools and parishes has been discussed. We all would agree the success of one leads to the success of the other. This topic has also been addressed in the school’s strategic plan with the focus on how the ACSS families can show their support for the parishes as active parishioners. Many of the ACSS families provide for the parishes in terms of service and financial support but several do not. Recently, this has been addressed with greater definition and expectations of what is needed to ensure the continued viability of the parishes and the school in terms of parish involvement. Beginning with the 2015-2016 school year, each family is being asked to: 1. Be registered in a parish 2. Be supportive of the parish by frequenting the sacraments God bless. Jim Mattern Interim President continued on pg 2……. “Instilling Catholic values and promoting academic excellence by nurturing mind, body and soul.” ABERDEEN CATHOLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM PAGE 2 Parish Involvement Program cont…... 3. Provide verifiable financial support to the parish and/or CFSA at a minimum of $190.00 per year (1/12 the annual subsidy per student provided by the parish) 4. Offer a minimum of 12 hours annually of time and talent to the parish ministries (excluding school service program hours) Non-Catholic families will follow the same elements as listed only at their respective church. As one can clearly see, these expectations are quite minimal in scope. If all families continue to do what they are doing for their parish, and others begin to meet these expectations, our parishes will reap the benefits which will only help the schools. Throughout this coming school year, all are being asked to provide support in the manner listed above. If a family elects to not participate as an active parishioner level and meet items 1-4, they will still receive the $2,255.00 education subsidy from the parish but their tuition for the 20162017 school year will be increased by 20%. The priests are fully supportive of this program and are committed to helping their respective families. More details will be available this summer at the time of final registration. Do not hesitate to contact the president’s office or your pastor should you have any questions. IT ONLY TAKES 15 MINUTES……. for you to be a blessing to your school. We are in need of more Gift Card sellers after the weekend Masses. It truly takes a small amount of time and the benefits for you and the school are great. The Gift Card Program is an important fundraiser for Roncalli and if your 7-12 grade student joins you in selling, they can receive service hours for school (even during the summer). You pick the dates that work for you. PLEASE HELP! Call Laurie Campbell today at 226-2100 to put your name on the volunteer list. PTO Dear Parents and Teachers of the Roncalli PTO, Thank you to everyone who participated in bringing success to our Family Carnival fundraiser. An event like this needs great volunteers! God surely blessed our day and our efforts tremendously by allowing us to raise over $8,000 in our three hour event! This will go toward our 2014-2015 budgeted General Fund Assessment of $15,000. We are finalizing plans on how to support our fine teachers with the excess funds as this is one of the purposes and mission of the Parent / Teacher Organization. As this is my last communication as your PTO President, I would like to personally thank my fellow Board Members, Tina Dosch (Vice President), Erica Coughlin (Secretary), and Maria Lao (Treasurer). I’ve appreciated all of their support and the support of those of you who have stepped up when I’ve called and asked for help. May God bless you and your families.
