ONE BELT
AND ONE ROAD
Developed in 2013 by the new Chinese government led by President Xi, One
Belt and One Road has been the salient policy to strengthen China’s economic
development and its influence in the region. One Belt refers to the ancient Silk
Road economic belt covering Central and West Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
One road refers to the maritime Silk Road connecting China to its Southeast
Asian neighbours. The purpose of this framework is to diversify China’s economic
structure to live up to its Peaceful Rise advocacy, despite the recent slowdown of
the economy. It is believed that a total of 1 trillion RMB will be invested into this
initiative.
It is also the main theme for the inaugural the Fortune New Economic Global
Forum-Australia Summit in November this year.
