ACADEMY AT THE LAKES SUMMER DAY CAMP
Welcome to a great summer for 2015! We would like to invite your child to join us for a summer full of adventure,
sports, creativity, and friendships. Our camp is located on the campus of Academy at the Lakes on Lake Myrtle in
Land O’Lakes and is designed for children 3 years of age through rising 9th graders.
The camps we offer allow the children to have fun, broaden their horizons, and learn something new in a caring,
supportive, and safe environment. Our staff of teachers and counselor assistants has great things planned for the
campers.
Summer at the Lakes Day Camp will be open for 8 one-week sessions from June 8–July 31, from 8:30 a.m.-3:00
p.m. Campers can enroll in either full or half day sessions. Extended care is available from 7:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m. and
3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. There is no camp on Friday, July 3 - camps for that 4-day week will be 20% off.

ABOUT OUR DIRECTORS:
Camp Director Barbara Soulé comes to us with 28 years of summer camp experience. Barbara’s love of children
and her enthusiasm for day camp is evident to all who know her. She has taught school for 39 years and has a
master’s degree in education.
Jenna Knoke, our Assistant Camp Director, has worked with Barbara Soulé for 11 years. She shares the same
enthusiasm for summer camp and her love for children extends in to her daily work as an Academy at the Lakes
Kindergarten teacher. Jenna is the Camp Invention® and Rec Camp director.
ABOUT OUR SCHOOL:
Academy at the Lakes is an independent PK3 -12th grade college preparatory school. Students enjoy a warm,
welcoming place where their talents and curiosities are highly valued. Small class sizes and a caring faculty allow
the students to build meaningful relationships with their teachers and classmates. The Academy offers a balanced

REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Summer at the Lakes uses an online registration and payment system. You will need an email address to set up your account
and a credit card to set up your payments. Invoices, statements, and camp communications will be sent to your email address.
PLANNING
Use the Camp-at-a-Glance charts on pages 5-6 to plan your camper’s schedule. We recommend using one sheet per
child. You can download additional charts on our website: www.summeratthelakes.camp.
ENROLLMENT (OPENS FEBRUARY 18, 2015)
1. To enroll, go to: www.summeratthelakes.camp
2. Click “Enroll Online” at the top of the page
3. Enter the parent, camper, and mailing address information; click “Continue”
4. On the next screen, click on a camper name to begin selecting the camps by date
5. Click “Add this enrollment option” next to the week(s) you wish to attend; then select the camp
6. When you have finished selecting the camps, click “Save and Continue” at the bottom of the page
7. Select your extended care preferences, if any, and click “Save and Continue”
8. Select your payment option and enter your credit card information; then click “Submit Enrollment Request”
PARENT DASHBOARD
Parents may access the Parent Dashboard to update enrollment forms, view invoices, make payments, and add camps. We will
email your login information. To access the parent dashboard, go to: www.summeratthelakes.camp and click “Parent
Login” at the top of the page.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Absences: to report an absence, please call camp at 813-948-7600 in the morning.
Camps are grade or age specific. Please refer to each camp description for the appropriate information or look for the
numbers in ( ) on the charts. “Grade” means the grade your child will enter in August 2015. The Little Rec camp requires that
your child be the correct age by June 2015. All young campers must be toilet trained.
Clothing should be comfortable. Proper shoes must be worn for all sports. Flip-flops and backless shoes are not appropriate
for camp. Sneakers/tennis shoes are the best options for safety and comfort.
Extended Care is available every day from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Please check off the appropriate box on
the enrollment form if you plan on using extended care.
Fees: A deposit of $65 per camp is required at the time of enrollment. The deposit is non-refundable.
Lunch & snacks must be brought by the campers. It is important that your child bring ample water. Be sure lunch boxes and
all belongings have your child’s name.

the camps you sign up for. Additional charts can be downloaded from our website.

Around the World in 5 Days
Book Cooks
Be a world traveler and come with us as we discover a new
country each day. Campers will explore the culture of 4 or 5
countries by sampling their crafts, games, songs, and foods.
Visit exciting places around the world.
Attention all little chefs! Come spend part of your day making
yummy dishes based on your favorite story books. We’ll read,
cook, eat, and have a great time!

Babysitters Training

Babysitting is a great way to make some extra money. In this
course, campers will be prepared to be the sitter everyone
wants. Campers will create their own bag of tricks to be used
with all age groups. They will organize activities and games and
share them with the younger campers on Friday. Also basic
techniques of first aid and safety are taught so each babysitter
is well equipped for their new job.
Bake-it & Take-it
Weeks of: 6/15, 6/22, 7/6, 7/13, 7/20

Join us in the kitchen to bake cookies, cakes, pies, appetizers,
and lots more. Campers will please their family with the yummy
deserts and other food they prepare and bring home each day.
At the end of the week, they take home their “cookbook” of
their delicious creations.
Canine Crew
Week of: 7/13
Time: 12:00-3:00
Age: 3rd-9th grades
Cost: $125
Do you love dogs? If you want to learn more about dogs come
join the Canine Crew. You will get to learn about many of the
180 breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club and many
mixed breeds as well. You may meet a dog groomer, trainer,
vet, and breed ambassador. Learn about K-9 dogs and find
out what goes into training those special animals. Campers will
make homemade dog biscuits to donate to an animal shelter.
Chess Camp
Week of: 7/20

Age: 1st-9th grades
Cost: $125
Learn the great game of chess with an internationally rated
chess expert! This summer is your chance to learn the rules
or improve your game. The program with be tailored to the
specific level of each camper with fun activities including chess
puzzles, tournament play, and chess tower building! Each
participant will receive a prize upon camp completion.

RECREATION CAMPS
Counselor Assistant Training Program
Junior Reporters
This camp is for those entering 9th & 10th grades and who are
interested in training to be a counselor assistant in the future.
Discussions will include all the basics of being a CA. You will
put that knowledge into practice as you observe other camps
and begin to help the counselors with their duties. Feedback &
guidance will be provided throughout the experience.
Become a reporter this summer and learn how to tell exciting
news stories through print media and photography. We’ll
sharpen your photography skills. You’ll also learn how to make
a newspaper and flyers with Microsoft Publisher. Campers will
learn interviewing, reporting, writing, and editing skills. At the
end of the week, they will distribute to all the campers their
finished product.

Flower Power Gardening Camp

Campers will learn about plants, even grow a few plants, and
make crafts to bring home to their own gardens. They’ll have
fun making birdhouses, feeders, stepping stones, and more.

Campers are invited to be a part of Lego City. Children will
follow directions, enjoy teamwork, and design their very own

hours of planning, building, and enjoyment.
Little Princess Academy

Inspired by fictional and historical princesses, each day of camp
focuses on a different character trait. Little Princess Academy
draws lessons from favorite films and real life princesses. Traits
such as kindness, courage, and strength through adversity will
be taught through fun activities, films, and crafts. Your little

RECREATION CAMPS
princess will have fun and learn at the same time! The week
will culminate with a princess themed tea party where campers
will practice etiquette and everything they have learned. Girls
are welcome (but not required) to wear their favorite princess
outfits to camp each day that week.
Old Time Day Camp
Little Rec
Campers will enjoy the fun activities of the “old time day camp”.
Our campers will have four days to participate in fun activities
including water play, games, crafts, relay races, making snacks
and more!! Come join this camp for cool 4th of July activities.

This class is for our littlest campers (must be out of training
pants) and promises to provide them all with a wonderful
experience. They will have lots of opportunities to have fun
with a wide variety of activities while remaining on our campus:
crafts, stories, music, games, playing in the wading pools, and
much more.
Minute To Win It
Weeks of: 6/15, 7/27
Time: 12:00-3:00
Age: 1st-9th grades
Cost: $125
Have you ever dreamed of being on a TV game show! Inspired
by the hit game show “Minute to Win it”, campers can practice
and then compete for prizes. We will offer many fun games and
challenges that are great for children of all ages. Each game will
be just like the games they play on TV. Who knows, your kid
could become the next TV game show star!
Model Rocketry
Weeks of: 6/8, 7/6
Time: 12:00-3:00
Age: 3rd-9th grades
Cost: $125
5,4,3,2,1…lift off! Campers will learn about the technology
of aerodynamics and flight as they construct their own rockets
from start to finish. They will launch their rockets and watch as
it soars hundreds of feet into the sky then parachutes back to
earth. The campers will be provided with their first rocket but
will need to purchase a 2nd rocket from any local hobby shop.

This all day camp provides the children with tons of fun while
participating in a wide variety of activities. The morning is
spent off campus doing what this age group enjoys: roller
skating, miniature golf, bowling, movies, Pump it Up, Safety
Town, visit to a farm, Dinosaur World, Wild Things, Children’s
Museum, and more. The afternoon is spent back on campus
enjoying activities, such as crafts, games, stories, based on a
weekly theme.
Teen Rec

Age: 6th-9th grades
Cost: $225
Your teen will spend each day enjoying great activities that this
city has to offer. Some of these fun activities may include going
to the beach, go carts, ice-skating, laser tag, movies, MOSI
high ropes & zip line course, bowling, Extreme Adventures,
horseback riding, Big Cat Rescue, Rainbow River tubing,
Airheads, professional baseball game and more.
Trailblazers

This camp is for those children who love the outdoors and all
the great fun it provides. There will be lots of fishing off our
beautiful new dock, canoeing on Lake Myrtle, grilling hot dogs
and making s’mores, learning survival skills, including using
compasses, and of course putting up a tent.

Need a math makeover before school starts? This camp will
help rebuild your foundation in basic math skills of addition,
subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and other
challenging material so you are better prepared for the new
school year. Bring your brain and let’s get ready to work!
Campers will produce their own independent writing projects.
They will also have daily writing imaginative challenges to build
their writing portfolios. Campers will discover the skills needed

Explore the wonderful world of writing! Let’s go on a bear hunt in
our own backyard at camp and write about the sights and sounds.
Let’s turn those BLAH sentences into FANTABULOUS sentences:
“The cat went into the woods.” becomes “The pumpkin-orange
cat with a blue, glittery collar sped into the spooky woods to
chase a red robin.” It’s going to be fun....it’s going to be exciting....
it’s going to be incredible!
In this camp, you will work with computer applications including
Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel to create multimedia
content. The class is 100% hands-on to maximize the campers’ lab
time. We will have projects that will incorporate pictures, typing,
formatting, animating and more. Campers in 2nd-5th grades are
required to bring a universal USB drive for a surface tablet.

American Girl Friendship Club
Digital Photography
Create and sew a sundress for your favorite American Girl doll!
Campers will be guided in fabric selection and pattern cutting
while being introduced to basic sewing vocabulary and hand
sewing techniques. There will be AG crafts and games, movies
and music, recipes, and lots of fun with our dolls! On the last
day we will have a tea party, preparing finger sandwiches &
lemonade from scratch, along with a fashion show with our
new friends! Learn how to sew and craft in a safe, fun-filled
environment.
Does taking pictures sound like fun to you? Then sign up
for Digital Photography camp. Campers will explore basic
photographic techniques and concepts in composition, lighting,
special effects, and design. Along with their counselor, campers
will journey off campus on photographic explorations. Campers
will learn how to edit and share their photos. Campers will need
to provide their own digital cameras (iPads and iPhones are
acceptable).

Future writers and directors will create and film their own
adventure. Campers will create their own script ideas, write a
scenario, choose actors and then film scene by scene. They will
edit their work and choose music for a final event for parents

group decisions to create the final product.

Scrapbooking

Campers will create their own masterpieces using fabrics. We
will use different types of processes to create unique pieces of
art using weaving, sewing, macramé, batik, and tie-dye! Please
bring a white t-shirt for the tie-dye project.
Create unique and colorful scrapbook pages with patterns,
layers, stickers, ribbons, and much more. We will use fancy
scissors, stencils, shapes, designed paper, and cutter all provided
for you to make fun pages. Bring lots of your own pictures and
an album to create a wonderful scrapbook of memories you
will cherish for many years. This may be the start of a life-long
hobby.
Musical Theater (ANNIE, one-act edition)
Video & Broadcast Production
PERFORM, SING, DANCE AND DESIGN AND BUILD YOUR
PRODUCTION! Come be the part of a new phase of theatre
production by acting and singing. This is an all-day two week
camp where campers will spend the mornings singing and acting
to create their show, and in the afternoons they will design the
scenes to create a cool theatre. The show will be performed in
the afternoon of the final day for all invited friends and family.
Campers will experience all aspects of producing a live
show, including script writing, interviewing campers, editing,
anchoring, and directing—all in our new studio. Their show will
be seen all around camp, and they will receive a copy of their
broadcast.

Campers learn proper archery safety and technique while
trying to hit the target. They will travel on an Academy bus
and use the Lake Park archery range. Join our certified archery

Mastering the fundamentals of ball handling, shooting, and
defense is the key to becoming a successful basketball player.
This camp will teach the techniques for all the basic skills
such as dribbling, passing, and playing defense. Players will

to shoot free throws, jump shots, and lay-ups while playing
practice games. All of this is accomplished with an emphasis
on fun!

The point of tee ball is to help the youngest players learn handeye coordination, especially with batting. As the name implies,
Little League tee ball makes use of a tee instead of using a

our shaded P.E. field and in our gym.
This is a great way for campers to play their favorite P.E. games
in a fun, spirited atmosphere. Some favorites are mat ball,
capture the flag, battle ball, dodge ball, kickball, and waffle
ball. Campers will enjoy playing these games and many more
in our beautiful gym.
Strength and Conditioning

Campers will learn to execute a variety of performance-based
weightlifting and strength training exercises with proper
