STEPHENSON BUILDING Catered Accommodation STEPHENSON BUILDING Catered Accommodation Stephenson provides catered accommodation for 268 residents in single study bedrooms. The focal point for Endcliffe is The Edge, which provides a wide range of facilities including a dining room, café, bar, launderette and social and meeting space for all residents. Located at the heart of Endcliffe is The Village Store, which is a one stop shop for student essentials. How far? Getting around campus Stephenson is within a 20 minute walk of the main University and the Students’ Union. A comprehensive range of shops are available in Broomhill, just 5 minutes’ walk away. There are frequent bus services to the city centre and main University buildings, which charge special student fares. Catered Accommodation Catered accommodation is available on a 42 week contract. A catered food allowance is added each week onto a GeniUS Card for the 31 weeks of term time. The remaining 11 weeks are on a room only basis. No food allowance is added during the Christmas and Easter vacations or when the Spring Semester finishes in June. Please note, you do not have to vacate your rooms during the vacation periods. If you don’t use the full amount of cash loaded onto your GeniUS Card the balance will remain on the card for you to use another time. The GeniUS Card is issued upon arrival. The GeniUS Card is very flexible and can be used in any of the venues across the University that carry the slogan “Designed and Operated by US”, including the outlets in Endcliffe and Ranmoor. Study Bedrooms Residents in standard rooms have their own washbasins and share the communal bathroom and shower facilities with the other residents. Study bedrooms in Stephenson are arranged on corridors and furnished with fitted carpet, curtains, single bed (36in x 75in), wardrobe, desk and chair. Also available are a vacuum cleaner, iron, ironing board, mop bucket, dust pan and brush. We do not provide duvets, pillows, bed linen, towels, cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils, TV and audio equipment etc. Please refer to the Accommodation page on the Sheffield University website for more information about what to bring: www.shef.ac.uk/accommodation/arriving/ what-to-bring Kitchenette/Pantry This property is equipped with small kitchenettes to provide residents with an area for the preparation of light snacks only, fitted with microwave, toaster and kettle. A full size cooker is not available. Launderette Launderettes are provided across the residences offering access to washing machines and dryers in various locations. You can check if machines are available using Laundry View, a service allowing you to sign up for alerts to tell you when your wash is complete. Further information will be provided in your key pack on arrival. Internet Connection All rooms have wireless high-speed internet and are connected to the University’s network. Internet provision is included in the rent. Parking Sheffield has a great public transport system, so we advise that you don’t bring a car with you. However, if you do need to bring one there are a limited number of parking spaces in Endcliffe. Students may apply for a resident parking permit online once they have registered at the University and have a Ucard number. There is a charge for a parking permit and places will depend on availability and are not guaranteed. Depending on the value of your personal items your insurance can be upgraded, information will be provided along with your residence contract. Safety and Security There’s a dedicated team of University Security staff who patrol the residences and monitor the extensive CCTV coverage to look after your safety and security 7 days a week. Residence Life Resident Mentors are experienced students who are happy to support you during your time in University accommodation and ensure a positive living experience for everyone. Your Resident Mentor will come to your property and greet you during your first few weeks here. They’ll visit regularly while you’re living in University accommodation and can answer a lot of questions and help you deal with issues such as noise and disagreements if they arise.
