Media Advisory: UPDATED Shooting Investigation
Detectives continue to follow up on this morning’s shooting at the Americas Best Value Inn. So far, witness testimony
and evidence collected has all been consistent. At this time, it appears Mr. Van Gourdine had been searching for his exgirlfriend for several days and had made threats to harm her if he found her. Mr. Gourdine does have a history of
domestic violence against the woman.
Upon locating her at the motel, he broke a window and attempted to gain entry into the room. At that point, Mr.
Gourdine was fatally wounded by an occupant in the room.
Initial findings in the investigation point to the shooting being justified. However, detectives will continue to work the
case, following leads and ultimately present the case to the State Attorney.
