Actors Theatre presents almost 500 performances annually and delivers a broad range of programming including classical repertory and contemporary work through the Brown-Forman Series, holiday favorites, a series of free theatre by its Acting Apprentice Company and the Humana Festival of New American Plays. Summary of Position: To construct scenery and set pieces in accordance with designer plans; includes carpentry, welding, work with plastics, fabrics or other materials. The Scenic Carpenter works as part of the Sets Department team to construct, transport, set up, and strike all sets used in Actors Theatre productions, and is required to help maintain a safe, clean and friendly work environment. Principal Responsibilities: Construct scenery and set pieces Enforce daily shop cleanup and organization. Install scenery on stage including mechanically moving pieces, stationary pieces and flying pieces. Prepare area around stage; could include special railings, seat installation or removal or painting voms and tiers Participate in strike of set at end of the performance run. Assist other departments in moving large equipment or heavy material handling Assist other departments as time and production needs demand Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by direct supervisor or management. Qualifications/Requirements: Two years professional experience Broad knowledge of carpentry, metal working, rigging, tools and theatrical products Ability to understand and execute construction drawings Ability to work as a team member and maintain a positive attitude in times of stress Ability to lift, push, pull or otherwise maneuver up to 70 lbs repeatedly, either alone or with assistance. Comfortable working on ladders, mechanical lifts or other high places. Comfortable working in confined spaces. Familiarity with AutoCAD Compensation Compensation will be competitive with similar positions throughout the country.
