Step 1: List Common Area Expectations and Procedures
Safe: • Single file lunch lines
• Avoid horseplay
Respectful:
• Show respect for others
• No cutting in line
• Clean up after yourself
Responsible:
• Clean up: Deposit all trash in trash cans
• Use restroom next to the cafeteria
• Remain in seat during entire lunch period
• Keep campus beautiful!
Successful:
• One trip to the lunch line
• Sparkling school (clean up!)
• Everyone has time to eat

Step 4: Teaching Strategies- include Direct Teach, Guided Practice, Independent Practice, and
Check for Understanding Activities
Direct Teach Activities:
Teacher will introduce/review cafeteria procedures by viewing POWTOON video titled Mission
Possible via internet at http://www.powtoon.com/p/grXbymCBeiB/ .
Guided Practice Activities:
TSW engage with teacher in creating a bubble map of what should be seen and heard in our
cafeteria during lunch time. (Bubble map can be drawn on dry erase board or on paper shown on
projector so students can refer to it for Independent Practice Activity.)
Independent Practice Activities:
Materials Needed:
Pencil, map colors/crayons, drawing paper and bubble map from Guided Practice Activity
The student will draw a picture/cartoon, with a caption, of appropriate cafeteria behavior.
Check for Understanding Activities:
Place students in groups and have them role play one or two of the cafeteria expectations.
Step 5: Booster Sessions
Teach and Reteach lessons as needed, scheduled, or as directed by PBIS team. You may also
use the 2013-2014 lesson plans, and the PBIS team is currently developing additional ppts for
each of the PBIS target areas…look for more information on these in future communiques.
Step 6: Teacher Responsibilities
• Remind students to be safe, respectful, and responsible and follow Cafeteria Procedures.
• Praise students who are being safe, respectful, responsible and successful.
• If a student does not follow rules and expectations, staff should then take the student aside
quietly and state the procedure that is not being followed.
