ADCAN IS A NOT FOR PROFIT ORGANISATION - ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.2015 - www.adcanawards.com
about adcan awards
ADCAN Awards is a not-for-profit initiative that generates awareness for
deserving causes, while championing aspiring filmmakers and providing them
with invaluable access to leading industry figures and organisations.
The free-to-enter competition invites unsigned creatives working in the UK to
select a brief from one of four charities. They must then create a 30 second
film championing its cause in a unique way.
Entries will be judged by top production companies Rattling Stick, Partizan
and Nexus. The best films for each charity will be shortlisted, with a winner per
category and an overall winner.
Shortlisted films will be featured and promoted on Vimeo and their makers
invited to exclusive creative workshops with renowned creative companies
including The Mill, Wave and ARRI Media.
In its first year, director Abbie Brandon and producer Emily Atterton won the
Grand Prix ADCAN Award with their film for Learning Through Landscapes.
Atterton has gone on to work at Rattling Stick, whilst category winning
filmmakers Esrael Alem and Filmawi Efrem have been employed by Partizan.
And it’s not just the filmmakers who win. ADCAN Awards provides
deserving charities with strong creative to help them spread the word
about their causes.

ADCAN’s Chosen Charities
Engineers without Borders UK - ewb-uk.org
Engineers without Borders is a UK-based registered charity and NGO. Its
mission is to facilitate human development through engineering, putting
students and young engineers at the centre of projects and providing
resources and contacts to help them become development professionals.
Superact - superact.org.uk
Based in the UK but with international reach, Superact creates music and
art projects that make a positive difference in key areas of community
development such as employability, heath and wellbeing. In doing so it
empowers individuals and strengthens communities.
The Rucksack Project - rucksackproject.org
The Rucksack Project is a worldwide movement helping those sleeping rough

a rucksack, sleeping bag, warm clothes and food and give it to a homeless
person. The Rucksack Project is about many people each doing a little to
make a big difference.
Live Life Give Life - livelifegivelife.org.uk
Live Life Give Life encourages people to register as organ donors by talking
about the uplifting side of organ donation: the lives you can save. The charity
funds initiatives to improve the welfare of transplant patients and supports
public recognition of donors and their families. It works closely with many
other transplant charities including NHS Blood and Transplants.

exciting opportunity for all involved.”

What people are saying about the ADCAN Awards
ADCAN participants have been overwhelmingly positive about their
experiences. Finalists were inspired, industry professionals blown away by the
caliber of entries and the charities involved expressed immense gratitude for
the initiative’s support.
Adam Williams, Journalist, Stage and Screen Insider, says:
“The ADCAN Awards brings a positive and charitable edge to a filmmaking
competition that is all about championing a good cause. ADCAN offers
a meeting place where good causes in need of boosting awareness and
filmmakers looking to improve their reel and production companies on the
look out for new talent can converge and collaborate.”
Abbie Brandon, Grand Prix Award winner, ADCAN Awards, says:
“The ADCAN Awards have provided us all with fantastic exposure to industry
experts and presented us with invaluable networking opportunities.”
Juno Hollyhock, Executive Director, Learning Through Landscapes, says:
“We thoroughly enjoyed being involved in the ADCAN Awards. We have met
such promising film-makers that have gone to the trouble to make our charity
come to life and were so impressed by their talent.”
Emily Atterton, Grand Prix Award winner, ADCAN Awards, says:
“I can’t believe how much has changed for me in less than a year. Following
our Grand Prix recognition, I’ve been offered a full time role and my DOP from
ADCAN has also been booked for commercials following the scheme… we
both support ADCAN whole heartedly!”
Daniel Kleinman, Film Director & Founder of Rattling Stick, says:
“When I started directing it was difficult to get a foot in the door and now it’s
even more competitive...ADCAN is a welcome route to getting support and
guidance for up and coming new talent, the lifeblood of our industry.”
Ezrael Alem, First Place Award winner, ADCAN Awards, says:
“The ADCAN Awards has been one of the most insightful things I have done in
a long time…it has been better than the two years of university I paid for! It’s
an award show which could change the lives of so many young filmmakers
and has left us wanting to push ourselves more creatively.”
Sundeep Toor, Second Place Award winner, ADCAN Awards, says:
“I was really happy to find that such an initiative now exists where not only
is your work showcased in front of the right people, but also charities benefit
too. Having a chance to engage with industry leaders is too good an
opportunity to miss.“
