M.A. (DAY) COURSE IN ENGLISH
(SEMESTER SYSTEM) SESSION 2015 - 2016
It may please be noted that
I. The list is provisional and is subject to:
 the fulfilling of the eligibility criteria as notified earlier.
 the verification of the equivalence of marks/degree from other universities to those of
this university, where applicable.
 correction in the merit position due to error, if any.
II. If at the time of counselling/admission and verification of marks, it is found by the
university authority that
• a student does not satisfy the eligibility criteria, s/he will not be considered for
admission, even if he/she is provisionally selected for admission.
• a student had entered incorrect marks in his/her on-line application form, his/her
rank position in the selection/merit list provided below shall be revised and
corrected accordingly on the basis of actual marks obtained in the examination
concerned.
III. SC/ST/PD quota as per rules.
IV. No separate intimation will be sent to individual candidate.
V. Candidates are to take admission in one course of study only, even if their names appear in
more than one course.
VI. All admissions are provisional.
VII.
Candidates who have appeared at the B.A/B.Sc. (Honours) or equivalent final
examination, results of which have not yet been published, may be given provisional
admission, subject to the following conditions:
α. at the time of counselling/admission the provisionally selected candidates will have to
produce a certificate in the prescribed format (click here) that their B.A/ B.Sc Final
Examination has been completed on or before June 7, 2015; such candidates will be
required to submit the mark-sheet within 15 th September 2015, failing of which their
provisional admission will be cancelled. The migration certificate must be submitted
subsequently within one year from the date of admission.
β. their provisional admission will stand cancelled if they fail to secure Honours in the
B.A/B.Sc. or equivalent final examination, 2015.

Note:
1. As per circular Nos. BC-16014/1/82-SC dt.06/08/1984 & BCD-1, D.O.12017/11/89SCD(R.CELL) dt.09/01/1990 and letter No.1510-SCW dt.31/05/2007 from the
Government of West Bengal, Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes of the states other
than West Bengal are not entitled to get the benefit of reserved quota in educational
institutions in West Bengal, unless they can produce a domicile certificate of 10-year
residency.
2. Persons with 40% or more disability will only be considered for admission under PD
category under PWD (Equal Opportunity, Protection of Rights and Full Participation)
Act, 1995.
VIII. Candidates will be required to bring the following at the time of counselling &
admission:
 A print out of the on-line application.
 3 (three) recent passport size photographs.
 ‘Pay-in Slip’ duly authenticated by the bank.
 All original marksheets, certificates including SC/ST/PD certificates from
competent authorities in the names of the candidates themselves, where
applicable, are to be shown at the time of interview for verification.
 The original madhyamik admit card/certificate (for age verification).
 Attested copies of all mark-sheets, certificates, madhyamik
card/certificate are to be submitted at the time of admission.

or before: An affidavit that he/she is not registered in any other day-course

 If the provisionally selected candidate is pursuing an MA day-course or its
equivalent in another college/university: an affidavit that s/he will be deregistering from that day-course (click here)
 Parents/guardian's income certificate issued by the employer with office seal for
the employed person and for others by a gazetted officer.
IX. Date and time of counselling and admission of provisionally selected candidates:
on June 11, 2015 at 12:30pm.
Venue: Prof. Anita Banerjee Memorial Hall (Ground Floor, U.G. Arts Building),
Jadavpur University (Main Campus).

X. If a candidate fails to appear on the specified date and time for counselling, the next
candidate in order of merit will be considered for admission. The candidate absent on
June 11, 2015, will also NOT be considered for admission against vacancy (if any) at a
later date.
XI. At the time of counselling/admission, all provisionally selected candidates who have
completed their graduation in 2014 or before must submit an affidavit that they are not
registered in any other day course anywhere/elsewhere, failing of which he/she will not
be admitted.
XII. If a provisionally selected candidate is already admitted to any other
college/university and is pursuing an MA day-course or its equivalent there, s/he will
be required to submit an affidavit (at the time of counselling/admission at Jadavpur
University) that s/he will be de-registering from that course. Proof of application of deregistration/cancellation from the course concerned must be submitted within June 25,
2015, failing of which her/his admission will be cancelled. Subsequently,
cancellation/migration certificate from the institution concerned should be submitted
preferably within 30th October, 2015.
XIII. The waitlisted candidates must report at 2:00pm on 11.06.2015 at Prof. Anita
Banerjee Memorial Hall (Ground Floor, U.G. Arts Building), Jadavpur University
(Main Campus). The vacant seats, if any, will be filled up in order of merit from
amongst the waitlisted candidates. Their names will be called at 2:30pm. If any
candidate fails to turn up the seat will be offered to the next candidate in the list. They
will also be required to produce all original mark sheets and certificates. The process
will continue till the vacant seats are filled up. The rest of the candidates are advised to
record their attendance on 11.06.2015 at 3:00pm at the Office of the Dean and
Secretary, Faculty Council of Arts (Ground Floor, U.G. Arts Building).
XIV. Classes will commence on July 1, 2015.
XV. The candidates admitted to M.A. in English course should have at least 50%
attendance of total classes held during 01.07.2015 – 09.07.2015, failing which his/her
studentship will be treated as cancelled without further reference.
XVI. Vacancies, if any, along with names of waitlisted candidates will be notified on the
website on 11.07.2015 after 6.00 pm. Only those waitlisted candidates who were
present at the time of counseling on June 11, 2015 and recorded their attendances at the
Office of the Dean and Secretary, Faculty Council of Arts on the same day will be
considered for admission against vacancy, if any.
XVII.Counselling/Admission against vacancies, if any, shall be done on 15.07.2015 at 11
am in order of merit from amongst the waitlisted candidates published on 11.07.2015.
XVIII.
ADMISSION WILL BE CLOSED AFTER 15.07.2015
Jadavpur University has accepted in principle that each and every student of the
university shall be duty bound during the entire period of studentship with the university
to immediately report to the Dean of Students if any ragging is noticed either in university
hostel or on university campus.

If any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the authority, the concerned student shall
be given liberty to explain and if his explanation is not found satisfactory, the authority
would expel him/her from the university.
Details of on-line submission of anti-ragging affidavit shall be made available by the Head,
Department of English, at the time of counselling.
Print out of the anti-ragging affidavit submitted on-line by the student and his/her parents
must be submitted to the Head, Department of English within 15 (fifteen) days from the
commencement of classes (i.e., July 15, 2015).
