Serving Latino Youth/Building Latino Leadership 2015 Resident Assistant Application An AGUILA Resident Assistant (RA) is critical to the success of the Annual Leadership Symposium held each summer welcoming current and incoming AGUILA students. RA’s are charged with an important responsibility of serving as a role model for our students. RA’s must adhere to strict policies and procedures to ensure the safety of all participants and to encourage, inspire and motivate each student in the college application process. Resident Assistant Requirements AGUILA Youth Leadership Institute (AGUILA) welcomes applications from students with diverse academic backgrounds and interests. Resident Assistant applicants who possess a desire to be a role model and meet the following requirements will be considered for the RA position for the Summer 2015 symposium. • Applicants must be pursuing an undergraduate/graduate degree or have graduated from a post-secondary institution • Demonstrated leadership skills and previous extracurricular involvement either in high school or with other campus organizations • Ability to connect with and relate to a wide diversity of students Strong communication skills, including the ability to build inclusive relationships with other students and student leaders Individual Review All students will be evaluated through a process called Individual Review. Through this process AGUILA will review all available information about a student’s application, carefully considering all aspects of a student’s academic background and accomplishments. In some cases, additional information might be requested. June - July 2015 – Training Workshops AGUILA will begin hosting Saturday trainings to prepare RA’s for the Summer Leadership Symposium. These workshops are mandatory. July 14 - 18, 2015 – Summer Leadership Symposium at Arizona State University - Downtown AGUILA’s annual summer leadership symposium takes place at Arizona State University’s downtown campus for 4days/3-nights. Recommenders can be: a teacher, a mentor, employer, counselor, etc. Recommendation letters need to be attached with this application. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure the recommendations are turned in on time. COMMITMENT OF PARTICIPATION If your application is approved you will be contacted to schedule an interview—either over the phone or in person—and will be further notified how the process will proceed. There are mandatory Resident Assistant (RA) training workshops that will occur in the months of June and July. These workshops will be held in Central Phoenix. By signing this application, you agree to attend all trainings and be present for the entirety of the annual summer leadership symposium held on July 14 – 18, 2015 at Arizona State University downtown campus.
