That social was at the offices of Summit EnviroSolutions, and it continued to be there for many years. The former home of the Children’s Museum and office of the rail lines in that area, the building was conducive to entertaining speakers, well lubricated socializing, and dramatic raffles. Our speakers through the years have included Dr Stout on more than one occasion, Dr Olaf Pfannkuch, Dr Kate Pound, Dr Peter Huddleston, Larry Zanko, Dr James Cotter, Dr Calvin Alexander, and Dr James Miller. We usually tried to tie the wine in with the topic, which didn’t work so well with Antarctica or Mars. Other topics included the Lying Stones of Dr Berenguer, the Great Diamond Swindle of 1872, New Zealand’s wine country, Patagonian Geology through the lens of a Chilean Wine Glass, Ice and Rocks—Baffin Island and Sweden, Geology and Wine Down Under, Geology and Terroir of the Italian Alps, the Glacial Geology of Brazil vs Minnesota, the Tale of two Intrusions—the Greenland Minnesota Connection, and the Geology and Terroir of Wine Growing in Minnesota.
