ASSOCIATION OF AIRPORT INTERNAL AUDITORS ~ 26TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE
WHY ATTEND
LEARN FROM THE EXPERTS
Sessions are led by industry experts and peers with
expertise in the presentation subjects – people that you
don’t just run into every day. Their goal is to share their
experiences and focus on the topics that are pertinent to
you. Gain insights and inspiration to help you do your
job better.
CUSTOMIZED EDUCATION
There are concurrent sessions categorized by track,
allowing you to choose the ones that are most important
for you.
BRING NEW ENERGY TO YOUR WORK
Gain exposure to new ways of thinking by exchanging ideas and building relationships with
people who have faced similar challenges on the job. Find out how issues were resolved and
become inspired to try new approached during our Group Share sessions.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Accreditation and training is a way to separate you from the crowd. This conference qualifies
for up to 18 hours of continuing professional education (CPE), with an optional 3 additional
hours available during the extended session. Break times and meals are excellent opportunities
to network with your fellow auditors in a casual atmosphere.
HAVE SOME FUN, TOO
This conference is not just for feeding your brain. Special events give you the chance to
network, relax, and enjoy your surroundings in a great location.
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION, AND DID WE MENTION SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY
Politics is deeply entwined in the culture of Baton Rouge; it can be found both in the storied past
of local dealmakers, showcased at the Old Louisiana State Capitol, and in the political history
that is being written now inside the art deco skyscraper that serves as the current Capitol. As
home to the main campus of Louisiana State University and several smaller colleges, the city
buzzes with the energy of youth while holding fast to its traditions in Southern lifestyle and
historic sites. A revival is underway in the city center where attractions range from a riverfront
casino to the USS Kidd floating museum to the ultra-contemporary Shaw Center for the Arts,
which clusters an art museum, gallery spaces, theaters and restaurants in the heart of
downtown.

PRE-CONFERENCE EVENT ~ SUNDAY, JUNE 7
CAJUN PRIDE SWAMP TOUR AND HOUMAS HOUSE PLANTATION
Leave the hotel at 8:00 am and return at 3:00 pm by chartered bus.
Cajun Pride Swamp Tours is a privately owned wildlife refuge just 25 miles from New Orleans.
Cajun Pride Swamp Tours is unique in that their privately owned swamp ensures that our
narrated tour will not be disturbed by other boats. Their native Cajun Captains are all
natural...homegrown in the Bayous of South Louisiana. With accents and humor they will take
you back to the early days of Louisiana bayou and swamp explorations through the primitive
beauty of the moss-draped cypress trees and show off the American alligator and abundant
wildlife. Experience up-close our fauna-the inhabitants of our swamp, our flora-the sweet smell
of our wild hibiscus rose mallow and marsh mallow plants, and the unique history of the Cajun
town of Frenier with Manchac Swamp.
Next, experience the magic of time gone by when you enter the grounds of historic Houmas
House Plantation & Gardens. Your visit will take you on a journey through a time when the
Sugar Barons reigned supreme along the Great River Road. During a stroll of the magnificent
grounds, you will be greeted with the sights and scents of thirty-eight acres of lush gardens, cool
fountains and moss draped live oaks that stand witness to the extraordinary lives spent in this
beautiful setting. Sweet Olive trees will lure you on through the great arbors, heavily laden with
three varieties of Wisteria.
Listen for the sound of the tour bell, beckoning you to join your guide as he or she invites you to
take a glimpse into the world of a Sugar Baron. The Houmas mansion is beautifully appointed
with both fine antiques from the era and pieces that are original to the home. Guides speak in
the persona of various owners or workers on the Plantation, telling their stories of the families,

lifestyles and customs during the time when Houmas House was known as the Crown Jewel of
the Great River Road. The tour focuses on the wealth, grandeur and lavish life of the Sugar
Baron. The Greek Revival mansion, filled with exquisite art, fine antiques and unique objects
and tools, will satisfy your fantasies about antebellum life and surprise you with the explanations
of how some of the most cleverly designed objects were used each day. You’ll enjoy full access
to every room of the mansion and photography is permitted throughout.
Finally, you’ll want to take a piece of Houmas House home with you. The 8,000 square foot gift
shop is filled with treasures to remind you of your visit, fine art and furniture and a library
offering a very large selection of history books about Louisiana, plantations and the Civil War.
Additionally, there are books for children, cooks and collectors.

TUESDAY NIGHT ~ JUNE 9
CAPITOL PARK MUSUEM
For the Tuesday night networking event, we will visit the Capitol
Park Museum. From Louis Armstrong to Huey P. Long, from Mardi
Gras to fais-do-do, and from the nation-building commerce of the
Mississippi River to the life-sustaining bounty of the Gulf of Mexico,
the Capitol Park Museum provides a panoramic exploration of the
most vibrant state in America.
See how American Indians; colonists from France, Spain and
Britain; enslaved Africans and Acadians from Nova Scotia—
eventually known as Cajuns—populated and cultivated
Louisiana, shaping it into one of the most culturally rich regions
in the world. With thematic exhibits on diverse aspects of
Louisiana history, industry and culture, the museum includes
two permanent exhibits: Grounds for Greatness: Louisiana and
the Nation and Experiencing Louisiana: Discovering the Soul of
America.
