raffle tickets in any of the convention spaces will be asked to leave. The NM
American Indian Red Road Convention Committee thanks everyone for respecting this policy. Our goal is to provide an event focused on recovery.
How it all began “Many years ago a man got sober. He looked around and
noticed that he was in a room full of people who didn’t look like him, talk like
him, or dress like him. They didn’t have the same spiritual beliefs and values.
But they drank like he did, they shared the same stories, feelings and problems
he did when he drank.
So the man stuck around, got sober, and learned how to apply their sobriety
program to gain a new way of life. He realized that this program was not in
conflict with his spiritual beliefs and values, and was able to use them together
to grow.
Then more men and women began to get sober who shared the first man’s
spiritual beliefs and values. They would gather to share their experiences,
strengths and hopes. Then they began to talk about an event that would bring
more sober people together, to celebrate sobriety and celebrate their spiritual
beliefs and values.
Out of this group of Elders, the New Mexico American Indian Red Road Convention was born. We celebrate the American Indian spiritual beliefs and values, and the Twelve Steps and Traditions of Recovery. We try to carry on the
vision of the Elders, who believed that there was power and healing available
through this meeting of sober peoples of all walks of life.”
