The Quality Badge is awarded to organisations which have pledged to engage in an ongoing process to sustain good‐quality learning outside the classroom and have demonstrated that they meet six quality indicators. These indicators show that we: 1.

have a process in place to assist users to plan the learning experience effectively; provide accurate information about what we offer; provide activities, experience and resources which meet learner needs; review the experience and act on feedback; meet the needs of the users; and have safety management processes in place to manage risk effectively. IN DETAIL ● By the nature of adventure, many of the activities we teach have a specific risk factor but in all cases this is addressed in a detailed risk assessment to ensure a controlled environment. ● Risk Benefit Management is viewed as a process and all staff are thoroughly trained and continually re‐trained. ● The Company has a detailed Health and Safety Policy and a written Health and Safety Policy Statement and complies with all relevant legislation. ● Each Centre has comprehensive risk assessments covering the site, use of transportation, all activities and all locations used for activities. These are available for inspection, on site. ● Each Centre has detailed procedures in place in case of emergency. These are available for inspection, on site. ● Risk Assessments and Emergency Procedures are reviewed annually by the Centre Leadership Team. ● Each Centre is inspected by the Fire Officer and all recommendations are acted upon. ● All safety equipment is regularly inspected and maintained by qualified staff. ● All specialist equipment is inspected regularly and is fit for its purpose. ● Records of all equipment checks are available on site for inspection. ● There is a First Aid trained Duty Person available 24 hours a day. ACCOMMODATION ●

We ensure that groups are provided with dedicated accommodation areas. Leaders’ rooms are close to the student rooms. Bunk beds are no more than two bunks high. There is a Fire Drill for groups in residence on the first day of their visit. Fire precaution arrangements are reviewed regularly and fire fighting and fire alarm systems are annually maintained and tested. Fire Evacuation and Routes are clearly signed and free from obstruction. Joseph Allnatt Centres Ltd., teaching children outdoors since 1924 SECURITY ARRANGEMENTS ● The security of our guests is a priority. ● All groups receive an orientation on the day of arrival which covers site boundaries, house rules and emergency contact details. ● External doors are locked at night by the Duty Person. Group leaders are advised when this is done. ● All accommodation blocks are accessible by an individual key code. The code for specific buildings is made known to the group leaders. Codes are changed regularly. ● All visitors are recorded with Reception / the Office. ● Staff are trained to be vigilant at all times and to politely challenge any unknown persons on site. ● All leaders’ rooms are lockable and a key is provided. STAFF RECRUITMENT AND TRAINING ● All Staff are interviewed personally and their qualifications and references verified. ● We run a comprehensive Induction and skills Training Course for all staff. ● We have continual assessment and monitoring of competence. ● All Centre Operations, accidents and incidents are reviewed formally each week at a formal and minuted Review Meeting. STAFF COMPETENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS ● We accept and work to the principles of the Adventure Activity Licensing Authority for determining staff competence. ● We use a combination of externally awarded qualifications, in‐house training and experience. Senior staff are recruited and trained directly by the Managing Director, a qualified teacher with over thirty years experience in outdoor education. ● The Managing Director directly oversees the contents of the in‐house training programme. ● All staff hold a relevant National Governing Body (NGB) Qualification, or a statement of competence signed by an appropriately experienced and qualified person, for the session they are running. This ​
is consistent with the requirements of Local Education Authorities (LEA). ● Copies are available for inspection on site. CHILD PROTECTION Our policy is consistent with current good practice in this area and meets current statutory requirements. DBS checks are carried out on all staff to enhanced level. SUPERVISION WHEN NOT ENGAGED IN ACTIVITIES Overnight and downtime supervision is the responsibility of the visiting group leader. A timetable of responsibilities is provided to all teaching groups which makes it clear as to who holds the baton of responsibility at any given time. The Allnatt Duty Manager is on call overnight for emergencies. A mobile telephone number will be given to the Group Leader in order to contact the Duty Manager should an emergency arise. March 2015 (inc) CODE OF CONDUCT Denea Wright, the Managing Director, is Chair and a Director of the British Activity Providers Association and has chaired and served on the committee for the Southern Region of the Institute for Outdoor Learning for many Joseph Allnatt Centres Ltd., teaching children outdoors since 1924 years. As such she ensures that the Company’s Code of Conduct conforms to that of the Institute. The purpose of the Code is to set out the standards of behaviour agreed to and upheld by members of the IOL as they cultivate and promote the special values and importance of outdoor learning experiences. * * * PRE ARRIVAL INDICATORS We have a process in plce to assist our customers to plan the programme effectively​
. 1. ● The services we offer are clearly laid out in our publicity ● Each Group Leader receives an email from the Programme Co‐ordinator to ensure correct understanding and discuss the particular needs of the booking. ● On confirmation of the booking, we then plan a tailored logistical programme of work ●
which is linked to the learning objectives, taking into account all the special needs of the group, including equality, diversity and inclusion. We provide resources suitable to their programme, for groups to use before arrival. a) We agree the roles and responsibilities of visiting Group Leaders and Centre staff. b) We agree learning objectives. c) We plan a tailored programme of work with a purpose for each activity which is linked to the learning objectives. d) We take into account all special needs i.e. equality, diversity, inclusion e) We agree a process with the customer as to how the progress of each child will be assessed and how the programme will be reviewed. f) We provide resources for the customer to prepare for the visit and to follow it up. 2. We provide accurate information about our services ● All our promotional materials are updated regularly. They are designed by members of senior staff and signed off by the Managing Director. ● We provide tariffs, where all charges are made clear in writing. a) b) We ensure that all our promotional materials are accurate. We provide activities, experience and resources which meet the learning needs ● Our programmes provide a carefully chosen range of activities, delivered through a variety ●

of teaching styles by competent and enhanced CRB checked tutors. Staff performances are regularly reviewed with a CPD meeting occurring during the season. Our equipment and resources are appropriate to the activities being carried out. Their maintenance and checks are recorded and logged. We explore a range of habitats, being sympathetic to the human impact on the environment. a) We offer a variety of activities delivered through a range of teaching and learning styles. b) All our equipment and resources are appropriate for the activities. c) We make good use of our excellent locations. d) We ensure that the programme is run in accordance with our promotional materials. e) All our staff are competent and CRB checked. f) All our staff are monitored and developed in the quality of their teaching. Before the group leave, the Programme Co‐ordinator reviews the programme with the visiting Group Leader. We check the learning objectives were met. The individual tutors review the programme with their groups. This information is recorded on the group’s review sheet, which is used in the weekly meetings. This ensures that practises are continually improved. a) We evaluate our own performance. b) We seek assurance from our customers that learning objectives set at the planning stage have been met and that value for money has been achieved. c) We have a process in place that ensures that programmes and activities are continually improved. GENERAL INDICATORS OF GOOD PRACTICE 5. We provide what our customers want The general indicators of our good practice are outlined in the Quality Assurance booklet, which all teaching groups receive. a) We communicate effectively. b) Our written policies are reviewed, maintained and updated regularly. c) We understand sustainability issues and the impact of our activities on the local environment. d) We monitor the overall quality of the residential experience and make changes to continually improve both the Hospitality and Teaching elements. 6. We provide a Risk Controlled environment. The process for this is outlined in the Quality Assurance booklet a) We share our safety management procedures with our customers to ensure that risks are identified and appropriately managed. b) We comply with all external regulations relating to Health and Safety. c) We have public liability insurance of £10 million. d) We have appropriate safeguarding procedures in place to ensure Child Protection.
