Alpha’s Spring Dance – “Kicking and Screaming”: Student Council is hosting
Alpha’s very first sports themed dance, “Kicking and Screaming”. Dance is on
Wednesday, April 29 - 6:00-9:00pm in the small gym. Tickets are being sold
in the upper foyer at lunch until Wednesday, April 22. $10 per person, $9 for
grade 8’s. $9 each if you come in a group of 5. Buy your tickets soon as they are
selling out fast.
Reminder to all grade 11s and 12s to update your DPA log in, it is
required for the year end report.

Heart Mural Project: Meeting today, April 28 at lunch to do some
drawing and painting for the collage. The next meeting is Wednesday,
April 29 after school in Rm. 301 to assemble glue and paint as well as
photograph and film the process.
Yearbook Prize Winner: Congratulations to Keith Chau in grade 9 for
winning this week’s final yearbook prize. Please see Ms. Pitassi for pick up

Valedictorian - Class of 2015
On Thursday, April 30th Grade 12 students will vote to elect their Valedictorian for the Class of 2015. The Valedictorian is
a student who will be chosen by their peers to represent them at the School Leaving Ceremony on May 20th at Bill Copeland
Centre.
Students need to be nominated by their peers and staff in order to run for this important position. Application forms that
include more specific criteria are available on the counter in the Main Office. The application forms need to be submitted to
the office by today, April 28th by 3:15 at the latest.

Reminder – Grade 12 PSI applications: Students can apply to the online form by logging into the Student
Secure Web (SSW), www.bced.gov.bc.ca/exams/tsw/tsw/student/, and clicking the menu option "Post Secondary
Institutions Selections". Note: Students who do not yet have a SSW account will need to create one at the
above SSW website prior to gaining access to the PSI Selections form.
May 4, 2015 to have interim transcript information
forwarded in May 2015 to the BC Electronic PSIs, the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) and the
University of Alberta.
Students must make their PSI Selections by July 15, 2015 to have their final
transcript information sent to PSIs in late July 2015.

Douglas College Jumpstart Orientation 2015 is fast approaching!
The event will take place from 5:00pm-8:45pm on May 4 & 5 at the New Westminster Campus, and May 6 & 7 at
the Coquitlam Campus. The evening will include a session on how to select and register for courses, a Student
Panel, and information regarding Financial Aid. We’re looking forward to welcoming new students to our
community and getting them ready for College life! If you have any students who have been accepted to Douglas,

Grad Laser Tag: Hey Grads, the last Grad event is laser tag! Come to Rm. 102 at lunch from Monday, May 4 –
11 to pick up your field trip form and pay the $11 fee. Laser tag will take place on Tuesday, May 12 during 3 rd and
4th block. If you do not attend you are expected to be in class. Hope to see you all there.

Burnaby International Student Summer Program looking for Mentors: Want a fun and rewarding way to earn
work experience hours while meeting students from around the world? Be a mentor in Burnaby’s Summer ESL

Attention Grade 11 & 12s!!Do you need more hours to complete your work experience? There are many
volunteer placements that are available right now to choose from and can get started in completing your
mandatory hours. Here are some details.

Need Volunteer Hours? Become a Swim Lesson Volunteer with SFU Recreation! Students will get hands on
experience in the Aquatics field for the summer which can lead to future employment. See Ms. Perizzolo for

Microsoft Vancouver is hosting a Day of Technology with BCIT for GIRLS May 13 th. Girls, ages 13-18, that
are interested in learning what it is like to have a career in technology come see Ms. Perizzolo. For Grade 11 & 12s
it will count towards your work experience hours.
ECOLE SPERLING SCHOOL FUN FAIR!! Sperling Fun Fair will be held May 29th and they are looking for
volunteers to help run the fair which is raising funds for the school’s technology program. Come to the Career
Centre to sign up.
Gilmore School’s BI-ANNUAL SCHOOL CARNIVAL!! Come out and help Gilmore school during an evening of fun,
games and entertainment. Come to the Career Center and talk to Ms. Perizzolo for details.
ART! VANCOUVER: Join us for four exciting days of artwork from local, national, and international art galleries

SUN FEST SUMMER DAY CAMP NEEDS VOLUNTEERS! Heights Neighbourhood Association is looking for
enthusiastic, energetic and fun people to join their team this summer. See Ms. Perizzolo for details.
Staging, Equipment, Drums? The Jazz Festival is looking for production crew for their upcoming festival. If you
are interested, please visit the Career Center in room 319 and talk to one of you Career Prep Advisors soon.
Kiu Do Chinese School: Heritage Language Chinese School is looking for volunteers to help in many different
projects. This opportunity runs every Saturday with two different shifts here at Alpha. Come to the Career
