Read Across America, Drop-off Safety, Make

Greetings Gator Families!
This is Teresa Caswell, Principal at Alston Ridge Elementary School, and I am calling to give you our bimonthly update. This information will also be posted on our website. I have enjoyed meeting many
of you and your children during my first week and sincerely appreciate your partnership and support!
I hope you are enjoying this beautiful weekend! After several weeks of chilly weather, I know that I
am thrilled to open my windows. We also have a final make-up schedule for all of those snow days!
More detailed information can be found on the Wake County website but in short, Alston Ridge will
make up with a half day on Saturday May 16th and a full day on Saturday May 30th.
Our Read Across America book drive and other activities were postponed to this coming week.
Kindergarten and First Grade gave us an amazing preview as they dressed up like their favorite book
characters last Wednesday and Friday, respectively. Please see information from your child’s teacher
about this coming week’s activities including donating new or gently used books. Thank you!
Parents, please know that parking along Green Level Church to drop off or walk your students into or
from school can be very dangerous. I have heard from several parents about near misses as parents
or students run across the road. Please use the carpool lane for morning drop offs and afternoon pickups. Your safety and that of all students is our primary concern. Thank you.
The window for track change requests will be open this week. Please come to the school during the
office hours of 8am and 4:30pm to make your request. Requests will not be considered on a firstcome, first-served basis, and will be limited by the space currently available.
Finally, in the spirit of transparent partnerships, I will have monthly parent chats at Alston Ridge.
These will rotate in terms of days of the week and time of day. For the first on Tuesday, March 24 th,
there will be two: Croissants with Caswell at 9:30am and Crostini with Caswell at 5:30pm. Come have
a bite and let’s talk!
Thank you, again, for the warm welcome! I am looking forward to another wonderful week at Alston
Ridge. Please let me know if I can help you in any way.
