NEWS FROM THE RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION

MAY 2015
NEWS FROM THE RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION
As cold April gives way to (we hope) warmer May, we see lawns
getting greener each day, trees budding and longer hours of day light
to enjoy. We have survived another enteric out break!
Residents appreciate the efforts of the management and staff to control
the spread of infection as much as possible. This helped to shorten the
duration of the outbreak. Special thanks to the dietary staff for
trucking meals to our rooms! And thanks to the Activity Director for
providing some reading and puzzle material to relieve the tedium.
The Saturday Walking Club has revived in spite of chilly weather.
We look forward to greater participation as the weather becomes
milder. The blue heron has been seen at the Perley-Rideau pond and
at our pond.
The Discussion Group continues apace. We continue to hear from
speakers on a variety of subjects: Ken Lund described the activities of
the Barbary Pirates; Jean Cloutier told us about his job as a City
Councillor and Rua Grinbergs dealt with Healing of Mind, Body and
Soul. We will miss Walter Terentiuk on the evening of May 6, as he
will be receiving an award from the Champlain Community Care
Access Centre (CCAC) for his volunteer work. Thanks to Walter and
John for arranging for speakers each week.
Bingo is ever popular, occurring 4 days a week at a cost of $2.50 per
day – even if you don’t win. With a dozen or more players, the odds
are that you will win sooner or later. Eight games are played at 25
cents for two cards and 50 cents for a full card. We look for new
members.
Ambassadors have been appointed for each of four floors and John
Hope has been added to represent the third floor. Ambassadors are to
welcome new residents and help them to become integrated into the
life of the Alta Vista Retirement Community. We look forward to
welcoming new residents.

Alta Vista Retirement Community, owned
and operated by Regal Lifestyle Communities, will be celebrating Regal Recognition during the
week of Monday, May 11th to Sunday, May 17th.
This initiative has been founded to celebrate the amazing staff we have on hand and make
them feel appreciated and recognized. There will be several different activities taking place
which require the participation of Residents in order to show appreciation of the
hardworking, dedicated employees in all different departments. This appreciation week will
coincide with Nursing Week, which is fitting as all of our team do their very best to help others
in some way or another. This provides the perfect opportunity to give back and express your
gratitude. Thank you in advance for your participation with this important initiative!
