You are part of a vibrant community of independent thinkers, people who
aren’t afraid to stand up for what they believe and who cherish and nurture
that quality in others.
It is in this Brown spirit that I urge you today to choose among 15
candidates for alumni leadership roles. Their talent and dedication
represent the very best of Brown, and we look to you to decide which of
these talented Brunonians should represent you and your alma mater.

You will vote for two sets of alumni leaders: 1) alumni trustees of the
Corporation, who help chart Brown’s future course; and 2) the presidentelect, secretary, and treasurer of the Brown Alumni Association (BAA),
who—for the next two years—will make important decisions about services
that sustain the alumni community.

It is the long-standing policy of the Brown Alumni Association
(BAA) that there will be no campaigning in the elections
sponsored by the Alumni Association.
voting procedures
▶Vote for no more than four candidates for alumni trustee.
Cast only one vote each for the offices of Brown Alumni
Association president-elect, treasurer, and secretary.
▶Return the enclosed ballot in the envelope provided, or vote
online: go to https://www.esc-vote.com/brown and follow the
instructions at the top of the enclosed ballot.
▶Your ballot will be valid even if you do not select a candidate
for every office.

Jennifer Moses is co-founder and COO of
Caliber Schools, a charter school management
organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for disadvantaged children.
Caliber’s first school opened in Richmond,
CA, in 2014. Jennifer is also a co-founder of
ARK, one of the UK’s largest children’s charities; and King Solomon Academy, a London
inner-city charter school that is one of the
country’s top non-selective schools. She is passionate about equity in education.
Jennifer’s career has combined finance and
public policy in the United States and abroad.
She was a managing director in Investment
Banking at Goldman Sachs, CEO of the British
policy think tank CentreForum, and a senior
policy adviser to Prime Minister Gordon
Brown, whom she helped restructure the British banking sector during the financial crisis of
2008–09. She also invests in educational technology start-ups.
Jennifer has built close ties with Brown,
co-chairing her 25th and 30th Reunion Gift
Committees. She and her husband have supported President Paxson’s initiative to fund
summer internships for students on financial
aid. She has interviewed Brown applicants and
served on the Creative Arts Advisory Board.
She is married to a Brown classmate and her
son is Class of 2018.

Brian A. Benjamin

Brian Benjamin is a partner in Genesis Companies, a $220-million community-based real
estate development firm that is transforming
disadvantaged neighborhoods in New York
and New Jersey by creating hundreds of units
of high quality, environmentally sustainable,
and affordable housing. Prior to Genesis,
Brian worked as an investment banker at Morgan Stanley in New York City.
Long active in politics, Brian was a 2012 delegate for President Barack Obama and serves
on the President’s National Finance Committee. He is also a sought-after political commentator and appears regularly as a Democratic
strategist on Fox News. Deeply involved in his
community, in 2013 Brian launched a schoolbased mentoring initiative at an underserved
public high school in Harlem.
Brian has maintained an unwavering commitment to Brown. As a senior he was elected
president of the Class of 1998, and upon
graduating he joined the Brown Club of
Rhode Island, where he served on the board
from 1999 to 2001. In 2003 Brian chaired his
class’s 5th Reunion. His ongoing contributions to the alumni community have included
interviewing Brown applicants, returning to
campus as a career panelist, and leadership
roles with the Brown Annual Fund and the
Boldly Brown campaign.
Brown taught me to how to think—to analyze seemingly intractable problems, to build
consensus, to question the status quo, and to
dream that the world could be different. I want
to support Brown’s plans for academic distinction, social justice, and diversity on campus. I
would be honored to represent all alumni on
the Brown Corporation.

Alumni Trustee Background
The Brown Corporation is composed of 12 fellows and
up to 42 trustees. Fourteen trustees are nominated
through the BAA’s elections and elected by the
Corporation. Trustees serve staggered six-year terms.
n The Corporation is responsible for establishing broad
policies for Brown’s operation, selecting a president,
appointing administrative officers and faculty, and
managing the funds and holding the real estate of
the University.
I was born and raised in the inner city, and
Brown opened doors that I never knew existed. I found my world philosophy as well as
my best friends at Brown, and it would be an
honor to give back to the University that has
given me so much.
Sangeeta N. Bhatia
Lexington, MA

PhD ’97, MIT
MD ’99, Harvard Medical School
Sangeeta Bhatia is a cancer researcher, MIT
professor, and biotech entrepreneur. Trained
as both a physician and engineer, she has
dedicated the last 25 years to leveraging
technologies first developed in the computer
industry and adapting them for medical
innovation. Over the course of her career,
Sangeeta has trained 175 researchers, and she
and her students have launched 10 biotech
companies to improve human health. In
2014 Sangeeta received the Lemelson-MIT
Prize, known as the “Oscar for inventors,”
for her groundbreaking inventions and dedication to the next generation of scientists.
Sangeeta began advocating for technological
workforce diversity at Brown, where she led
the Society of Women Engineers. Her passion for making STEM education fun led her
to co-found KEYs, an outreach program to
spark middle school girls’ interest in science.
Sangeeta’s efforts have earned her Harvard
Medical School’s Diversity Award and the
Harvard-MIT McMahon Mentoring Award.
Currently a member of the advisory council to
Brown’s School of Engineering, Sangeeta has
returned to campus as a frequent speaker and
was awarded the Brown Engineering Alumni
Medal in 2011. She, her husband, and their
two daughters live in Lexington, MA, where
they are in the midst of a seven-year stint
running the school science fair.

Brown shaped how I think, who I am, and
what I do. It gave me a deepened appreciation
for the role of creativity and the humanities
in our technological society. It would be an

Anne MacMillan Pedrero

MBA ’00, Stanford University
Anne Pedrero serves on the board of directors
of Cargill, a world leader in food, agricultural,
and risk management products and services;
and is a director of Waycrosse, which she
chaired from 2006 to 2011. Previously she was
a principal with Cargill Ventures, and a cofounder of Daylight Design, a print and online
media company.
Anne is active in Bay Area nonprofits devoted
to youth. She served on the board of Juma
Ventures, which provides jobs and mentoring
to low-income teenagers, and currently is
treasurer for Children of Shelters. Since 2010
she has been a trustee of the Hamlin School,
where she now chairs the board.
A committed supporter of Brown, Anne is secretary of the Board of Overseers for the Watson Institute for International Studies. She is
also an active fundraiser and has been involved
as a leader for her reunion gift committee for
every reunion since her graduation. In addition, Anne has been an active participant in
the Alumni Interviewing Program* for more
than a decade.

Since first walking through the Van Wickle
Gates, I have loved Brown. It nurtured in me
a passion for learning, a global perspective,
and the courage to take risks. It continues to
energize me as an alumni volunteer, and my
work with the Watson Institute—engaging
with students, faculty, and alumni around the
great issues facing the world today—reminds
me what a special place Brown is. It would be
an honor to apply my non-profit and business
experience to help the University fulfill its mission of discovery, understanding, and inquiry.

Jeffrey (Jeff) Hines is the lead gynecologic
oncologist with WellStar Health System in
Atlanta. He began his career in the U.S. Army
Medical Corps, deploying as a battalion surgeon during operations Desert Shield and
Desert Storm. He received a Meritorious
Service Medal and the Southwest Asia Service
Medal with two Bronze Service Stars.
Carlos Lejnieks is CEO of Big Brothers Big
Sisters (BBBS) of New Jersey’s Essex, Hudson,
and Union counties and chairman for BBBS of
NJ. In four years the agency went from serving
116 youth to 1,100. As an undergrad and medical student, Jeff
helped lead the Third World Center, was
president of the Daniel Hale Williams Medical
Society, and delivered the Medical School’s
commencement address. In Atlanta he is
vice-chairman of the Lovett School and serves
on the regional education committee, the
Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, and
Leadership Atlanta.
For Brown, he has chaired the Alumni Interviewing Program* in Colorado, Texas, and
Georgia. He served on the southeast regional
committee for Boldly Brown and has raised
funds for undergraduate scholarships, the
IPC Endowed Scholarship, and the Alpert
Medical School. Currently, Jeff is a Dean’s
Circle member of the Brown Medical Alumni
Association Board and founding chair of its
Advancing Diversity committee. He served
on the 25th Reunion Committee for the MD
Class of 1986 and received Brown’s Leadership Award in 2003. Jeff is married to Sivan
Suntharalingam ’84, ’87 MD.

The years I spent at Brown were incredibly
rewarding. Brown instilled in me the importance, and privilege, of being a servant-leader.
This spirit has never left me. As a trustee,
I would support Brown’s development of
visionary and meaningful practices and innovative thought that so significantly impact our
local and global communities.
Carlos was previously an administrator at
North Star, a nationally recognized public
charter school in Newark. He is co-founder
of Democracy Prep, in Harlem, and a trustee
for Jersey City Medical Center. He served on
President Barack Obama’s regional finance
committee and the transition teams for Governor Chris Christie and Mayor Cory Booker.
An Aspen Institute Emerging Leader Fellow,
Carlos received the NJ City University’s Presidential Medallion and the National Organization of African-American Administrators’
Education Leadership Award, and was named
to the New Leaders Council’s National 40
under 40. In 2011 he spoke at the Newark
Peace Summit headlined by the Dalai Lama.
Saint Peter’s University awarded Carlos an
honorary doctorate. A former Brown wrestler and member of the
Undergraduate Council of Students, Carlos has
remained involved by interviewing applicants,
returning to campus for career panels, fundraising for Boldly Brown’s Alumni of Color
Initiative, and serving as class co-president and
on the boards of the Association of Class Leaders and the Brown Club of Northern NJ.

As the son of an Ecuadorian immigrant, I have
never taken lightly the fact that Brown took a
chance on me. Driven by a strong sense of duty
to give back for all that it offered, I would be
most honored to continue my service to Brown. n Alumni trustees participate as full members of the

Galen V. Henderson
Taunton, MA

MD ’93, Brown University
Galen Henderson is director of neurocritical
care and the neuroscience intensive care unit
at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. An assistant professor at Harvard Medical School,
he directs the neurology clerkships for Harvard medical students rotating through the
Brigham. He is founding deputy editor of
Journal Watch Neurology, published by the
New England Journal of Medicine. In addition,
Galen is a charter member of the Academy
at the Harvard Medical School, which comprises the school’s elite medical educators.
The Secretary of Health and Human Services
recognized Galen with an award for national
leadership in hospital quality improvement.
Galen is active on Brown’s advisory councils
regarding the Brown-Tougaloo partnership
and the division of biology and medicine.
He sits on the board of the Brown Medical
Alumni Association, of which he is past
president. He has served as an alumni trustee
and as a member of the Brown Corporation’s
Emeriti Executive Committee. His service to
the Brown Alumni Association has included
both ex-officio and full board membership. He
received the Brown Bear Award in 2014.
i am interested in serving because :
Brown is special and plays an extremely important role in the United States and in the
world. It is a place where ideas are discussed
and developed, and students are transformed
into better critical thinkers and lifelong learners. I want to strengthen the relationship
between the University and all of its graduates—from the undergraduate college to the
graduate, medical, engineering, and public
health schools. I want to help alumni to use
the University as a lifelong resource.

Eric Egan is a Milan-based interior designer
specializing in the restoration of historic hotels and residences throughout Europe, Latin
America, and the United States. Completed
projects include the Gritti Palace Venice, the
St. Regis Florence, Milan’s Principe di Savoia
Hotel, and the Grande Bretagne Hotel in Athens, as well as residences in Tuscany, London,
New York, Mexico City, Buenos Aires, and
Hong Kong. In his work Eric strives to achieve
a relaxed and comfortable elegance that highlights the best of Italian craftsmanship.
An active member of the Brown Alumni Association’s Board of Governors, Eric works
with the Finance and Marketing Committee
and chairs the Maddock Alumni Center Committee. He is the founder of the Brown Club
of Italy and the regional director for Europe,
Africa, and the Middle East for the Alumni
Interviewing Program.*

Attending Brown opened up my world and set
me on the path to an international life and career in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. The
Alumni Interviewing Program allows me to
share this with fascinating and exciting young
people looking to attend Brown. My involvement with the Brown Alumni Association and
the Brown Club of Italy have allowed me to
continue to foster relationships with Brown
graduates the world over. Working with the
talented and professional team at the Brown
Alumni Association has been a wonderful
learning experience, and it would be my honor
to continue to represent Brown on the Board
of Governors during this important time of
growth and development for the University.

Renee Inomata

Renee Inomata is a partner practicing employment and intellectual property law in the Boston office of the law firm Burns & Levinson,
LLP. She has risen through the ranks to chair
the firm’s labor, employment, and employee
benefits group, focusing on workplace law
and executive engagements. Renee has served
on the Boston Bar Association’s Council (its
governing body), and its Diversity & Inclusion
Committee, as well as the Women’s Bar Association’s Law Firm Advancement Committee
and the board of the Asian American Lawyers
Association of Massachusetts. She also chaired
Governor Deval Patrick’s Asian American
Commission and is active in promoting inclusion in the greater Boston area.
Renee is currently a member of Brown’s
Advisory Council on Diversity and an active
member of the Brown Alumni Association’s
Board of Governors, chairing its Brown Clubs
Committee and serving on the Multicultural
Alumni Committee. She has been a BRUnet
volunteer since the program’s inception. In
addition, Renee is a longtime volunteer for the
Brown Club of Boston in roles including president, co-president, and board member.

My Brown undergraduate experience fueled
my passion for understanding human nature and the benefits gained through human
relationships. For many, Brown remains a
foundation for lifelong journeys to better the
world through their education and Brown experience. I welcome the opportunity not only
to foster existing bonds inherent in the Brown
community, but also to discover new ways to
increase and strengthen the value of Brown for
all members of the Brown community.

Currently pursuing her MBA at Harvard
Business School, Sara Gentile most recently
held the position of program manager at
Public Partnerships, LLC (PPL), a subsidiary of Public Consulting Group. At PPL she
oversaw financial management services for
Medicaid and other publicly-funded self-directed care programs in several states. She has
extensive experience in project management,
cross-functional team leadership, and new
business development.
Sara is an active member of the Brown
Alumni Association (BAA) Board of Governors, serving on the Brown Clubs Committee
and the Finance and Marketing Committee.
She previously served as co-president of
the Brown Club of Boston, where she led a
21-member board of directors. She also serves
as an alumni interviewer and a BRUnet volunteer. In addition, Sara served on the steering
committee for the successful 120 Years of
Women at Brown conference in 2012. As
a student at Brown, she was elected to the
Undergraduate Finance Board and the Undergraduate Council of Students.

I am a passionate Brunonian and love giving
back in ways that build our community. When
I served on the Brown Club of Boston’s board
of directors as co-president of the club, I was
responsible for overseeing the work of our
club treasurer. As a member of the Alumni Association’s Finance and Marketing Committee
for the past year and a half, I have gained familiarity with the BAA’s finances. I would be
honored to serve as your BAA treasurer.

M. Rodney Robinson
Evanston, IL
AB ’90, American Civilization
Rodney Robinson focuses on connecting
the people of the world and has been a client
partner at Facebook, Inc. for the past five
years. Rodney began his marketing career
after Brown at Leo Burnett Advertising and
has worked in the publishing/Internet field by
helping to start USATODAY.com and holding
leadership positions at Yahoo and Google in
addition to Facebook. As a guest lecturer at
Northwestern University, Rodney has spoken
about the influence of social media. He is an
avid tennis player and a history buff.
Rodney remains active with the Brown
Alumni Association (BAA) by serving on its
Marketing and Social Media committees, and
he represents the BAA at University functions
in Chicago. He has been instrumental in helping the University create alumni followers and
identify more than 60,000 alumni on Facebook, where they can further their connection
with Brown.

Brown has always served as an open environment that encourages problem solving and
critical thinking. As we look to further build
Brown’s connection to its alumni, we have a
tremendous opportunity to create new, innovative solutions to drive Brown’s success for
the next 250 years. As a member of the BAA
board for the past three years, I would be honored to serve as treasurer and to identify new
areas for growth, as well as to leverage our resources wisely to serve our alumni base.

Daniel O’Keefe

Daniel (Dan) O’Keefe is a general partner of
Technology Crossover Ventures, a venture
capital firm. He has invested in or served on
the board of more than a dozen public and
private technology companies.
Dan is a member of the Council on Foreign
Relations, a Fellow of the Foreign Policy Association, and a board member of the New York
Venture Capital Association. He lives with
his wife, Sarah; and their daughters, Elise and
Emery, in New Canaan, CT.
For Brown, Dan has served as co-president of
his class and has chaired each reunion and its
respective reunion gift campaign. He served
two terms on the Brown Alumni Association
(BAA) Board of Governors, serving throughout on its Finance and Strategy committees.
While a student, Dan was president of Brown
Student Agencies and Delta Phi, and was class
representative to the Undergraduate Council
of Students. He was honored with Brown’s
Young Alumni Service Award in 2007.

As a third-generation Brunonian, I have
benefited from a truly lifelong Brown experience, and have enjoyed volunteering in a
variety of capacities, including serving on the
BAA Board of Governors from 2007 to 2011.
During that time, the BAA was not spared
from the Great Recession, and as a member
of its Finance Committee I worked to rebalance our investment portfolio toward a more
diverse and stable strategy. If elected as your
treasurer, I would leverage my experience
to continue to support programming that
enriches the lives and careers of our alumni,
every day.

Robbie Greenglass is the founder of Waterline
Ventures, a venture capital firm that invests in
early stage healthcare technology companies.
Robbie is also director of business development at Shields Pharmacy Services, which
partners with hospitals to manage the care of
patients requiring specialty pharmaceuticals.
Previously Robbie was an investor at the venture firm Highland Capital Partners, where he
focused on investments in healthcare technology. Prior to joining Highland in 2010, he was
an associate at Oppenheimer and an analyst at
CIBC World Markets.
Elizabeth (Liz) Cho is founder and president of
Poche Au Noir, a firm specializing in strategic
communications, event planning, and fundraising for nonprofits. Transitioning from a
career as an art dealer, she was director of communications and marketing for the New York
Women’s Foundation. She is now developing a
documentary called Love in Pyongyang.
Since graduation, Robbie has been an active
volunteer for Brown. He served on his 5th
Reunion Gift Committee and was a member of
the Brown Annual Fund Young Leaders Council from 2011 to 2014. He is currently in his
second term on the Brown Alumni Association
(BAA) Board of Governors, co-chairing the
Social Networking and New Media Committee. He has also served on the BAA’s Resources
Committee and its Synergy Committee.

A member of the Brown Alumni Association’s Board of Governors and of its Strategy
and Multicultural Alumni Committees, Liz
is also a board member and past treasurer of
A4, Brown’s Asian/Asian American Alumni
Alliance. She has been deeply involved in New
York City’s alumni community, both as an
interviewer and area chair for the Alumni Interviewing Program,* and as a board member,
cultural events chair, and co-president of the
Brown Club. She served on the Boldly Brown
campaign’s Alumni of Color Initiative and has
spoken on several alumni career panels. An
international student, Liz enjoys meeting with
local alumni clubs whenever she travels, most
recently in Paris and Istanbul.
I have a true passion for Brown. After my
family and loved ones, Brown was the most
transformational force in my life. I enjoy
seeing those at Brown grow and succeed,
which makes the whole institution an even
more powerful place. I am excited to be a part
of Brown’s growth in the future, and would
be honored to serve as the secretary of the
Alumni Association.

where intellectual curiosity, diversity, and social responsibility thrive. It is a privilege to call

Ellen C. Hunter

Ellen Hunter is principal at Ellen C. Hunter
and Company, a strategy and management
consulting group serving for-profit and
non-profit clients. Previously she was a
principal at Boston Consulting Group,
where, during her seven-year tenure, she
focused on merger integrations and large
scale transformations of corporations and
non-profit and public sector organizations.
Volunteering for Brown, Ellen is an alumni
interviewer and past co-chair of the Alumni of
Color Initiative’s young alumni gift committee. A past member of the Brown Alumni Association Board of Governors, she co-chaired
the Multicultural Alumni Committee and was

interested in serving because :
I am proud to be a part of the Brown alumni
community. I appreciate every opportunity to
give back to Brown and engage with Brown
students, faculty, staff, and alumni. I hope
that by serving I will have some small role
in preserving and enhancing the values that
distinguish Brown as an institution. For me,
these include our emphasis on undergraduate
teaching quality and values such as intellectual
curiosity, diversity, and our sense of global citizenship and responsibility.
