The value of approved construction projects has soared 413 percent during the first three months of 2014 compared to the same period last year amid an increase in domestic investment and property speculation ahead of planned regional integration next year. During the same period, 50 projects valued at $851 million was approved, compared to the 36 projects at $206 million in the first quarter in 2013, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction. Reflecting the growth, the import of construction materials increased from about 260,000 tons during the first quarter of 2013 to 619,000 tons in 2014, a 238 percent increase. These projects include industrial/factories, hotels, commercial complexes, supermarkets, residential and high-rise buildings. This has created huge demand for M&E equipment and services in particular in air-conditioning and ventilation systems. At the same time, refrigeration systems are also enjoying strong demand as the number of cold rooms and ice manufacturing facilities to support the food production and processing industry.
