MATERIALS:
Yarn: Deborah Norville Fashion Jeweltones by Premier
Yarns (57% Acrylic/40% Wool/3% Polyester [sequins]; 99
yards/90 meters; 1.75 oz/50 grams)
• DNF22-16 Spinel – 11 balls
Crochet Hook: H-8 (5mm) and I-9 (5.5 mm) or sizes to
obtain gauge
Extras: Split-ring stitch marker, yarn needle
Gauges
Beret: 7 rnds = 4" in lace patt with smaller hook; Scarf:
18 sts and 8 rows = 4" with larger hook. Use any size
hook to obtain specified gauge.

SPECIAL TERMS
Bpdc (back-post double crochet): Yo, insert hook around
next st from back to front to back and draw up a lp, [yo
and pull through 2 lps on hook] twice.
Puff: Yo, insert hook in next st and draw up a lp, yo and
pull through 2 lps on hook, [yo, insert hook in same st
and draw up a lp, yo and pull through 2 lps on hook]
twice, yo and pull through all 4 lps on hook.
Sc2tog (single crochet 2 stitches together): Insert hook

Before working beret band, lightly block lace portion of
top of beret.
FINISHING
First Edge—Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in each sc around; join with a
sl st in first sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as a dc), * ch 2, sk next 2 sc, dc in
next sc; rep from * around; join with a sl st in third ch of
beg ch-3.
Rnd 3: Sl st into ch-2 sp, ch 3 (counts as a dc), work 2
more dc in ch-2 sp, bpdc around next dc, * 3 dc in next
ch-2 sp, bpdc around next dc; rep from * around; join
with a sl st in third ch of beg ch-3; fasten off.
FINISHING
Weave in ends.
SCARF: Ch 318, join with a sl st in first ch to form a ring,
being careful not to twist ch; place a stitch marker in first
ch for later use. Do not turn.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in each ch around; join with a sl st in first
sc– 318 sts.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, * Puff in next sc, ch 2, skip next 2 sc, (2 dc,
ch 3, sl st) in next st, ch 1, skip next 2 sc; rep from * to
last 2 sts, sl st in third ch of beg ch-3.
Rnd 3: Ch 3, * (2 dc, ch 3, sl st) in top of puff, ch 1, Puff in
next ch 3-sp, ch 2; rep from * around; join with a sl st in
third ch of beg ch-3.
Rep Rnds 2 and 3 until scarf measures 8½” from beg,
ending with Rnd 2.
Next rnd: Ch 1, * sc in top of Puff, 2 sc in next ch-2 sp, sc
in next dc, 2 sc in next ch-3 sp; rep from * around; join
with a sl st in first sc.
Second Edge—Rnd 1: Working along opposite side of
foundation ch, join yarn with a sl st in marked ch, ch 1, sc
in same st as joining and in each st around; join with a sl
st in first sc – 318 sc.
Rep Rnds 2 and 3 of first edge; fasten off.
Weave in ends. Gently block scarf if desired.
