Hi Members.
There has been plenty happening on the local scene and it was great to see
3 new cars on the Power Cruise which were registered during the preceding
week. Marj and Murray Nix had their new fastback Mustang, Taylor
Somerville had her 85 Corvette and prospective member Dean Thomas had
his 61 Dodge Lancer. Good to see the hobby is alive and well.

Most long time members will still think of Taylor Somerville as Tony and
Vickie’s little girl. Boy, they are not kids for long and now Taylor is going on
21 and has her own Corvette. And a beautiful car it is too with input from
Tony and Vickie apparent.

Had a surprise on the Power Cruise when the Pells rocked up in a 95
Mustang, and a 6 cylinder as well. I do not know if they were trying to go
incognito or not, I am sure that would be impossible for Dave and Michelle,
Anyway they say variety is the spice of life.
There was a big turnout for the months Cars and Coffee and the new venue
suited fine. I think the parking is better but the downside is that the food
and drink is more expensive than the old venue. A new prospective
member Kev Spies was there in his green 73 L82 Corvette.
Safe cruising and see you at the meeting on 29th March.

2015 POWER CRUISE
After all the bad weather during the week it was great to have blue sky and sunshine for our St PatricksPaddy Power cruise on Sunday 15th
The day started at Smithfield Bunnings car park for our first cards for the poker run, it was good to see
so many people and cars turn up and participate. This run is the only one that we can keep everyone
together, what a sight on the road. Next stop was Koah Roadhouse for more cards, fuel and a drink and
then on to Tolga where we met up with more members, another drink and cards.
Our final destination was the Atherton International Club for lunch and to finish the poker run. Winners
were-1st Dehlia, 2nd Cristy, 3rd John P. Travis Pointing won the kids hand.
All together we had approx. 30 cars and around 60 people participate, three of the cars had only been
registered during the preceeding week. It is always good to catch up with our tableland club members,
the Pells (thanks Eddie & Jo), the Baker family and Vickie and Taylor Only problems for the day were for
Robert and Rosemary in the GTO with an easily fixed sticky lifter and for Cristy in the big cat which got a
bit heated. Both were soon on their way.
Well done to the organisers and everyone who attended and made it a great day.
Helen

Merging
There are two different give way rules for merging.
1. On roads where there are lanes marked on the road, if
your lane comes to an end, you must give way to traffic
already in the lane you are moving to. In the image to the
right, Vehicle A (blue) must give way to Vehicle B (green).
2. On roads where there are no lanes marked on the road,
when lines of traffic merge, you must give way to any
vehicle that is ahead of you. In the image to the right,
Vehicle B (green) must give way to Vehicle A (blue). Lines of
traffic refers to adjacent rows of vehicles that do not have a
lane separation line between them.

Don’t forget that we have a club Facebook page that
you can chat to your fellow club members on, and if
there is something of particular interest, let me know
and I will put it in our newsletter for all to see.

Invitation To Members
My name is Michelle and I am the Secretary of the All Ford Club FNQ Inc.
We have just set the date for our bi-annual car show - "The All Ford Day", and
would like to extend an invitation to the All American Car Club of Cairns to join us
in our event.
Date: 25th July 2015
Venue: Hansen Ford Dealership, Byrnes Street Mareeba
This year sees a theme of "Farewell to Falcon".
We will be making an announcement as to our Special VIP Guest next month, but
wanted to get the invitation out to you as soon as possible.
The date is shared with the council run "Christmas in July", so there will be plenty
for people to see and do if they make the trip up to the Tablelands for the day!
Looking forward to seeing your club there!
Regards,
Lee & Michelle : All Ford Club FNQ Inc

1965 OldS Cutlass 442
by the Auto Editors of Consumer Guide
General Motors took the hint when it delivered the 1965 Oldsmobile Cutlass 4-4-2. Shuffling onto the burgeoning
performance scene in mid-1964 with a "police package" that could be ordered on a four-door sedan was no recipe
for muscle car success. Indeed, fewer than 3,000 buyers bought the original Oldsmobile Cutlass 4-4-2
Refining its strategy for '65, Oldsmobile made the 4-4-2 a $190 option on the F-85 pillared coupe and a $156 extra
on the Cutlass coupe, two-door hardtop, and convertible. The 1965 Oldsmobile Cutlass 4-4-2 had arrived. Styling
of these midsize models was updated, with the 4-4-2 distinguished by chrome bodyside tines.
Overall balance was the 1965 Oldsmobile Cutlass 4-4-2's forte.
Marketing was hipper, too. Instead of a couple of cops in a bland '64 sedan, the Cutlass 4-4-2 advertising burst with
references to cubic inches and horsepower. Buzzwords like "kicks" and "cool" flew freely. One spot showed nothing
but blurred asphalt and the declaration, "Olds 4-4-2 was here!"
Also for 1965, GM raised the displacement ceiling on intermediates to 400 cubic inches. Olds destroked and
debored its new 425-cid big-car V-8 to create a hot 400-cid V-8 exclusively for the 1965 Oldsmobile Cutlass 4-4-2.
With this change, the name now meant 400 cubes, four-barrel carburettor, and dual exhausts.
The 1965 Oldsmobile Cutlass 4-4-2's horsepower increased by 35, to 345, and torque expanded by 85 lb-ft, to 440.
Peak power now came at 4800 rpm, not 5200, and peak torque was on tap at just 3200 rpm, 400 rpm lower than
before.
With the introduction of a new and larger V-8 in 1965, 4-4-2
now stood for 400 cubic inches, four-barrel carb, and dual exhausts.
9
Olds was able to use a mild cam and relatively modest axle ratios to make the '65 Oldsmobile Cutlass 4-4-2 a
mannered muscle car that still went quite well. Careful suspension tuning and anti-roll bars front and rear again
helped it handle better than the other GM intermediates. Transmission choices were three- and four-speed
manuals and the two-speed Jetaway automatic.
Where the 1965 Oldsmobile Cutlass 4-4-2 stayed too conservative was inside. Instrumentation was run-of-the-mill
F-85 with a tachometer mounted too low to be of much use. But its effortless performance proved prophetic. "It
oozes out 345 horsepower without trying," noticed Car Life in May 1965, "hinting of things to come if this big
engine/little car kick lasts." And last it would. The Oldsmobile Cutlass 4-4-2 spawned even higher performance in
years to come.
The 1965 Oldsmobile Cutlass 4-4-2 benefited from better marketing.
