Brain Boot Camp: Activities designed to stimulate your brain, especially parts of the brain that may have been affected by a stroke. These activities are challenging on purpose — if they were easy, they wouldn’t help much, would they? So bring your thinking caps and be ready to work this vital organ! Book Club: Survivors engage in group discussion about assigned readings. Caregiver Support Meeting: Once a month, caregivers meet as a group for support and encouragement at Scooter’s Coffee House in Blue Springs. Creative Conversation: We talk about everything under the sun. This is great for people with aphasia, but others like it, too. Current Events: Spend some time catching up with the world around us and keeping ourselves informed, because KNOWLEDGE is POWER! Express Yourself: Survivors participate in self-expression through various arts, crafts, stroke advocacy, and social media activities. *Give Back: Volunteering our time and efforts is a great way to help out others in our community, and it really makes us feel good about ourselves, too. We do a variety of activities to help others in this class. Peer to Peer Education: Work on your short term memory, recall and processing skills by working with a team mate to review morning program highlights . Stress Management: Stress is a risk factor for stroke, which is why it’s imperative that survivors learn methods for managing their stress in a healthful way. It’s Up To You!: You get to choose what we do! The only rule is that you must be doing something! Let’s Get Movin’!: No afternoon naps here! We’re going to re-energize our mind and body after lunch through music, movement and merriment. Monthly Focus: Stroke survivors participate in activities that focus around the wellness theme for the month. A wide variety of educational and experiential classes are offered . *Out & About: We like to be out an about in our community! *Special activities: Look for detailed flyers at the ASF for further information about these activities. * Calendar subject to change; Not all classes are offered each month.
