About the Author
Marcus Sedgwick is an award winning young adult fiction writer with a
list of literary influences that include
Hemingway, Poe, and Fleming. His debut
novel, “Floodland”, received the BranfordBoase Award given annually for an outstanding first novel from a talented new
novelist. Sedgwick’s lecture will focus on
his novels “Midwinterblood”, winner of the
Michael L. Printz Award for Excellence in Young Adult Literature,
and “The Ghosts of Heaven”.
Organized by the UCLA Graduate School of Education & Information Studies and the Department
of Information Studies, the annual Frances Clarke Sayers Lecture is a tribute to the former faculty
member Dr. Frances Clarke Sayers (1897-1989), who was a noted American children’s librarian,
author, and lecturer. She was an outspoken advocate for excellence in children’s liturature making
her one of the most influential American children’s librarians of her generation.
