company—their patterns have been around for a long time and are widely known to be easy to
follow and successful. SO, we’ve got a selection in the store and a catalogue. We’re not going to
stock the whole line, of course, but you can browse the catalogue or go online and we can order
anything you see for you. We’re excited!

This is one of their best-selling patterns. There
are four sizes/styles from which to choose and
they’re all easy and a certain success.
September is a great time to start a new project
and this is the one for you!!
The Cotton Club BOM quilt features forty-five 5”
quilt blocks and finishes at 78” x 85”. Designed by
Paula Barnes for Marcus Brothers, it’s a wonderful,
stripy quilt made from 5” blocks! The fabrics
are gorgeous shades of reds and browns on
backgrounds of a terrific variety of shirtings.

We’ll have a “kick-off” meeting Wednesday,
September 7 at either 9:30am or 6:00 pm where I’ll
share tips and techniques that helped me make our

It’s fall – though you can’t tell by the
temperature!!- and back to school! For us, that
means quilting and sewing classes to keep us busy.
We think we’ve worked up a great variety of quilting,
embroidery and sewing classes to fit many skill
levels and interests.
It’s not September in this area without
mentioning QuiltFest – our wonderful quilt show at
the Prime Osborne Convention Center September
22-24. The show is impressive every year and every
year Calico Station is there in our vendor booth
showing off new “stuff.” Please stop and see us!!
Also, we’ll have specials in the store throughout that
weekend so we hope you plan time to stop by here
as well.
In the next few months, we’ll also be receiving
the new BERNINA 5 series machines and will
be excited to talk about them! This will be a
perfect time to create your Christmas List – for
yourself – with a new BERNINA at the top of the list.
September 15-26 is the BERNINA Autumn Savings
Event that offers great ways to save on that new
machine. Again, let us convince you why a new
BERNINA is exactly what you “need.”
Late in October, Martha, Pam and Nancy are
off to Houston Quilt Market. This trip is a treat as we
get to see all the new, fun goodies the designers
have been creating for the last year. We’ll have a
Market Review in early November to share what we
were able to get back with us.

some yardage for borders. Fun and easy beginner quilt that goes
together rather quickly.

This is a great beginner project with simple piecing - we’ve even
made up kits with coordinating fabrics or you can put your own
together with 12 fat quarters and a little bit of yardage for borders.
If you’re an experienced quilter it is a nice relaxing quilt that can
use up some of your stash. You’ll be surprised by how quickly this
quilt goes together and maybe you might even have a holiday
present done and out of the way!
Beginning Quilting A-Z

You’ll learn the basics of seam allowance and cutting. The second

Free Motion Quilting

This two week class will improve your free motion skills and get you
quilting your own quilts in no time! We’ll go over the basics and
practice different patterns from stippling to using stencils. We’ll go
over common pitfalls when getting started and help you get your
confience up. The second week we’ll put those new skills to work
quilting a small project of your choice.

This is such a simple technique, but we can show you the right way
to do it. In one short class, you’ll learn to do all the cool appliqué

spacing, changing colors, combining and breaking apart, using

for your pillow ready to stitch, if not started in class.

The Internet can be an intimidating place for embroiderers so
we’ll give you a road map for navigating all the web sites
with embroidery designs, what format to choose, retrieving your
designs once you buy them, etc, - how to put them on a USB
stick - we’ll answer your questions and get you up and running
on all the cool stuff out there. You’ll be amazed by how easy it is
once you know where to go!

several projects which will teach you the basics of multi-hooping
a design. Come and learn how easy it is to do, with the help of
Bernina Embroidery Software. Laptop with Artista Embroidery
Software, Designer Plus, V5 or V6 and Embroidery Sewing
Machine required for Class. (Editor Plus owners should talk to

Twister Christmas Wreath
Friday, Sept 30 9:30-1:30
1. A deposit must be given at time of registration.
All fees are for instruction only unless otherwise
noted.
2. Classes will start promptly. If you’re late to class,
expect to be at a disadvantage until you’re
able to catch up.
3. Ask for a supply list at registration so you will
have all items necessary for class.
Our staff is trained and will be happy to help
you choose fabrics and supplies for your
classes and projects.
4. A limited number of sewing machines are
available for rent at a cost of $5.00 per class.
5. Class cancellations: We reserve the right to
cancel classes and will make every effort to
do so in a timely manner.Students may make
cancellations up to 2 days in advance and
receive full refund.
6. Quilt classes at Calico Station are designed
to assemble a quilt top. In order to finish the
project we encourage you to take a machine
or hand quilting class.

BERNINA Calendar
September
8-Series Education:
Attention 8-Series Owners!
Using the 8-series emulators, we will
teach you the features of these marvelous
new machines and how to use them.
The first session will introduce you to the
machine, which button does what and
where it is and when to use it. You will also
learn how to keep it clean and oiled.
The next sessions will keep you ‘In Stitches,’
show you how to be a ‘Smooth Operator,’
you will ‘NOT’ be ‘Directional Challenged,’
and then how to manage the ‘Embroidery’
and ‘Endless Embroidery.’ The embroidery
lessons are just for the 830, the rest are for
both machines.
Believe it or not, we can do all of the
above on the emulators. The emulators
can be downloaded from the Bernina
Website (www.berninausa.com) or I am
happy to load it on your computer before
class.
These classes will be taught on a individual
or group basis, on demand, as can be
scheduled between 3 PM – 5 PM, Tues.,
Wed., or Fri.
Fee: Free is you purchased your machine
from Calico Station, otherwise, $30.00
each 2-hour session.
