Porsche teams with EA to offer a virtual ride in the new Cayman GT4
Porsche teams with EA to offer video gamers a virtual ride in
the new Cayman GT4
The engine, chassis, brakes, and aerodynamic design of the
Cayman GT4 are configured for maximum driving dynamics
while retaining the versatility and everyday utility that are typical
of the two-seater Porsche coupe. Powered by a 385 hp
3.8-liter flat-six engine derived from the 911 Carrera S engine,
the Cayman GT4 transmits its power through a six-speed
manual transmission with dynamic gearbox mounts. Zero to 60
mph is accomplished in 4.2 seconds; its top track speed is
183 mph. The chassis - which features a 30 mm lower ride
height and a generously sized brake system - consists almost
entirely of components from the 911 GT3.
How EA will translate that into its Real Racing 3 game is
something for gaming enthusiasts to experience. Players can
earn the Cayman GT4 for free and make it a permanent part of
their collection by completing a set of challenges.
Porsche has partnered with video game publisher Electronic
Arts to include the new Porsche Cayman GT4 in EA's update for
its popular mobile game Real Racing 3 in 2015.
Real Racing 3 is a popular free-to-play driving simulation game
that is one of the top downloaded racing games. According to
the ThinkGaming site, which reports game revenue and use,
Real Racing 3 has nearly 600,000 daily active users.
That presents a major platform to boost the debut of the
Cayman GT4, which Porsche officially announced in early
February.
The Cayman GT4 is the first Porsche GT sports car based on
the Cayman and features components of the 911 GT3.
Clocking a lap time of 7 minutes and 40 seconds on the North
Loop of the Nürburgring, the Cayman GT4 earns the same lap
time as the 2011 911 GT3 and positions itself as the new
benchmark atop its market segment.
"The Cayman GT4 clearly demonstrates Porsche's dedication
and passion to continue to promote truly industry-leading
two-door sports cars in the future - sports cars that are
developed at the Motorsport department in Weissach," said a
Porsche spokesman in the official announcement.

Recharging batteries
All attention on the treadmill is aimed on the person's own body
- and the display that shows the progress of fitness. All the
attention? For some reason, the athlete's early-morning
exercise is occasionally interrupted by surreptitious glances to
the side. What is so fascinating about the display of the mobile
phone on the shelf around half past six in the morning? It is
associated with a very special Porsche. Not only the driver but
also the Porsche is filling up with energy at this moment.
The Engineer's Ambition is Triggered
As usual, Porsche takes a very sporty approach in the
breakthrough to the future. Technical solutions actually
enhance the driving pleasure. This is based on the corporate
principle which holds that thinking ahead is always the best way
to accelerate at Porsche. And a certain urgency is absolutely
essential because the automobile industry is on the brink of
what may prove to be the biggest upheaval in its history.
Reduction of emissions, climate protection, scarce resources
and less dependence on oil are presenting challenges to
ambitious engineers in new areas of development. Porsche
believes that its technical expertise alone brings with it the
responsibility to commit major resources to the groundbreaking
entry into e-mobility. The aspiration is always to work at the
leading edge of development.
The Panamera S E-Hybrid in the garage is loading its first
energy charge of the day from the wall socket, the interior is
being preconditioned at the same time - heated or cooled,
depending on the ambient temperature outside. The car battery
is not affected by this process because all the energy is being
taken from the power socket. This leaves more energy
available for driving on electric power. An app can be used to
control charging and air-conditioning remotely. Only the last
stage will always remain manual - getting in the car and starting
up.
No Strategy of Sacrifice
The objectives within the company have been clearly defined.
Fuel consumption and emissions need to be reduced by 10 to
15 percent in each new model without impacting negatively on
the aspirations of customers as a result of these reductions.
This simply relates to a redefinition of performance typical of
Porsche.
36 Kilometres All-Electric
The new Panamera S E-Hybrid is the first plug-in hybrid in the
luxury class and it makes even getting going a sustainable
process. This is because a full battery will enable the car to
travel for up to 36 kilometers (NEDC) solely powered by
electricity. A hybrid drive is a highly sophisticated technical
solution combining two different drivetrain systems: an internal
combustion engine and an electric motor. It was invented more
than one hundred years ago by Ferdinand Porsche and with the
technical possibilities available today, the hybrid system opens
up the road route to the future.
